Word around the docks: Last Thursday, a fisherman from CT fishing out of a marina in Westerly, under surveillance by both NOAA and FFWL officials, was observed fishing in both RI & CT waters for striped bass before transporting those fish to MA for commercial sales. He was apprehended in MA selling his striped bass catch, a totally illegal activity, in light of the fact that RI's commercial season is closed and there's no commercial striped bass quota in CT what-so-ever. He admitted after his arrest that he was fishing illegally in both RI & CT waters and will be charged with a Lacy Act violation (Federal crime). It was reported that he'd illegally sold over 80 bass from last Sunday through Thursday, July 18- 22, after he was nabbed. It just might cause a few other individuals a pause for a moment or two to consider what they're doing if they're playing the same game. | NBS Angling Addict | If you need to break the rules to play the game you shouldn't play at all. Guys like that make it harder for the guys that are trying to do it by the book.

NBS Supporter | The word is this guy has been being watched for some time. They planted a tracking device on his vehicle from what I've been told

| fishing in out of state waters with an out of state boat is a dead give away esp if they are from a state with a commercial season. There is a better way of doing that but you need more friends from RI and CT! | ||

| Was this guy from Stonington or North Stonington?Any ID? I've always thought the out of state transportation to MA was very interesting because MA requires you record the area in MA where the fish were caught. You would think that if they paid attention and knew the true migratory pattern(not the info provided on the catch report) and the location of the mass of fish at a given time that law enforcement wouldn't be too challenging Last edited by Black Dog; 07-27-2010 at 10:32 PM. | ||

| NBS Angling Addict | See it's dirtbags like this that think finding a better way to not get caught makes it ok, but you are no better then the ass clowns that get caught and are still a thief and a liar..

NBS Supporter | What this guy did was wrong period!!!! If he knew it was wrong then he also must know there is consequence associated with his wrong doings.... I don't know anything dollar wise on what he could make however it hardly seems worth it ![]() But!! Not to turn this into a political thing.....what wall street did was wrong too...and the government cut them a check and gave them more money which in a sense covered their backs......Ya see any of them being held accountable for their inappropriate actions??? My point being when something is wrong then it's wrong. If our own government backs the wrong doing then it kinda sets the tone deceitfulness and now everything wrong can somehow be viewed as being right

| Unfortunately until they make the pentalies stiff enough to be a real deterrent this will continue to go on.The money to be made far out weighs the penality. Most just pay the fine, then it's back to buisness. In any segment of society there will always be a certain percentage of law breakers. We certainly do live in a culture of coruption. Honesty seems to be a forgotten virtue these days. | ||
