Headed to the area of the Dip at 945am Fri. Trolled from 130pm-8pm and only had 3 skipjacks to account for. Very little life and not good looking water,75-76.8 degrees. Set up for the chunck and started drifting in 850' on the East side. Drifted until 445am and ended up in 500' with only a shark hit and maybe a swordfish playing with the deep bait. Up on the troll at 505am and headed back across the Dip and at 545am 2 rods explode with Bigeyes. After a 20-25 min fight my son Bryan gets it to the side and it's approx. 225-235lbs. After a couple of turns(just out of gaff reach) he heads under the boat and gets tangled in the running gear and that's the end of that. Fish # 2 makes the deck and is approx 180lbs, nice fish. We went back on the troll and stayed on it until 10am with no action. We hit 8 hi-flyers and found no Mahi's. Headed for the dock with alot more fish than the 20-30 boats out there. A few boats got very sm. YFT on the chunck in the flats but only a few. The talk on the radio was very bleak. Heard there was a little better action west of the Dip. Hope for another weather/work window to do it again. George | ||
