I left the dock with friends Paul AKA Orian and Mike at 10:00 AM. We headed for the Middle grounds started trolling toward the East around 3:00 PM. We arrived at the Fishtails with only one runoff and lost the fish. We started trolling North along the East side of the Tails then across to the West Side trolling South and boated our first Albi on a green machine as soon as we put the boat in gear another run off this time on a Canyon Runner rainbow spreader bar about 20 Min. later after a lot of line clearing from the Albi we boated a beautiful 100# Yelllow Fin. We then set up for the night bite. Within 30 Min. we boated our second Albi of 60#. That was it for the night bite. We finished our three flats of butterfish by about 1:00 AM and decided to start heading back as the wind was starting to build and we had all the fish we really needed. It was a great trip with great friends and lots of fresh fish for the freezer. ![]() Last edited by cruisecontrol : 04-09-2008 at 10:14 PM. | ||

| Was with Cruise Control (Dave) on the trip to Block Canyon and learned a valuable lesson about quality of hooks. We had a good knock-down on a 9 in./ 4 oz green and black slant head jet and as always keep moving for a slow count to 10. 50-130 penn tuna stick well bent over indicating a good fish when shortly after fish came off. After a look at the lure it appears the hook was about 50% open. The hook was a Gamakatsu siwash 8/0 round wire construction and not forged. After this experience a change to a quality hook such as a Mustad 7691sst is going to be made. To loose a fish because of a hook isn't up to the task is lousy. Also Dave's Canyon Runner rainbow bar that floats really works because after we landed an albie, I put the boat in gear and within seconds a yellow hit before we put out the other lures. Another item for the list. What about the weather forcasters who were calling for light winds and 2-4 seas diminishing but we saw ENE 15-25 and good 5+ footers. Oh well sos. Great trip and plenty of steaks. | ||
