Heading out Cod Fishing Wed. 4-16

I'll be heading out to the northern part of Stellwagon on Wednesday and I've got a boat full but if anyone want's to team up in another boat and meet me at the ramp we can travel together and I'll share some spots.

I'll post a report when done .

Very cool guys, I'll stay on 69 and I answer to Rhode Island Popper. If I land on them heavy I'll call you guys over. I'm probably putting in at Scituate Harbor it's a straight run out from there with small no wake zone.

Should be the pick day tomorrow. You might want to try 1.67 mi west of NWC in 200' to 210'. Killed the haddock there Saturday. Use hi-lo rigs w/clams. Swedish steel and squid sucked. 20 to 1 ratio, clams vs squid.
Good luck and best fishes,

Well I took the old boat and headed out to Stellwagon with a couple very good friends on board. We started just south of the North East corner of the bank and had a steady pick of small market cod with a throw back ratio of about 5 to 1. We were about 3 miles south of the northern most point of the bank and fishing in water of 100' to 110'. All fish taken on Jigs and teasers. That bite started to slow down around 11:00 and we headed right to the north tip of the bank and picked up a couple haddock till noon. After that we worked out way to middle bank and found a nice large pod of whales feeding on herring and gannets diving the water. We landed on top of a big school of mostly 24 to 26" fish. It was doubles for everyone for about an hour straight.

All day was flat calm conditions with a very SLOW drift. Was jigging bottom with 10 oz jigs. Never even ended up hitting the east side of the bank. All told we ended up with our limit of cod and a couple nice haddock. Saw hundreds of whales all over the place. Had one hump back surface within 20' of the back of my boat while we were drifting and heard of someone on the radio who accidently snagged a whale and lost all his line.

Great day and great company and now lots of great eats. Keep an eye on the fillets for worms. There were a few fish that were pretty loaded with them.
