Hooked Memorial Day weekend fishing

so we went out on the ocean runner memorial day weekend for some fishing... the report is posted on the site, but i figured i would share it here as well...

Cape Cod Fishing Report

The morning started early as we left the docks at 0500, heading out to Stellwagen Bank for a long fun day of Cape Cod fishing. On the ride out we encountered a pretty stiff wind with seas around 3-4’ so it was a nice choppy ride out.

As the day went on we fished in around 2' to 3’ seas as a cold front had passed through it was not until about noon time the wind shifted and died down. With the temperatures warming up and the fishing getting better the seas calmed down like glass.

On board the Ocean Runner we had Capt Rich, Capt Brian, Chris, Tyler, Scotty, and Chris. The fish never stopped coming to the hooks. Fishing on the N. West corner of the banks there was whales as well as many other boats. Roughly 150’ of water we were pulling up plenty of mackerels as well as cod and haddock. Cape Cod fishing was great with cod making a strong showing but using light weight jigs we could not hold bottom until late in the afternoon.

The drift was so strong as soon as you dropped you had to reel back up if you didn’t have a fish on. Tyler at age 9 was having a blast reeling up cod fish after cod fish in the 10-15 pound range, and even won the kids division of the Green Harbor fishing tournament that the Ocean Runner was entered into.

Every angler had limited out on their cod for the day with the biggest at 16 pounds that took the open division leader board for the tournament as well. With plenty of shorts thrown back the tally for the day was around 400 fish released and 60 keeper cod and 10 haddock.

With the day coming to an end we headed back to the marina around 1600 on the way in filleting all the fish. Today was a good trip and a pretty good day of Cape Cod deep sea fishing. We get back to the docks around 1730 and then weighed in our fish and find out we had won for the day.

With Sunday still left to fish unfortunately the Ocean Runner did not leave the docks, but Capt Brian took a ride down to check to see how we were in the standings and come to find out Tyler’s fish had held up for the kids division and ours at 15.4 stayed on top for the open boat division.
