Headed out from Montauk on the "Meals on Reels" for a day troll at 3:00 a.m. friday. Fairly nice ride out to the tails. We worked the 450 line west toward the dip after hearing reports of a few yellows in the area. The reports of yellows were spotty with no real pod of fish. Skipjacks working w/some small yellows mixed in. Had a knockdown and then saw the small yellow going airborne and spit the hook around 8:00. Late morning was slow out there with a little more activity in the afternoon. Heard of a big-eye landed and then a few bigger yellows. Hooked up with a decent fish in 650' of water near the middle grounds and after a nice battle lost her just before seeing color. First knockdown was on green and yellow with a boone bird in front. Hookup was on yellow and green spreader bar. Water out there is hot and wide, upper 80's. Not to go home without dinner we put 23 Mahi's in the box. Yum Yum. It's too bad the water is so hot and spread out there doesn't seem to be any concentration of fish just spotty here and there.
Tight lines to all!
