thanks for your input

I did alot of online research and spoke to may people regarding the reel choice after deliberating alot I decided on the alutecnos 50w 2 speed. The people who had them said the service was great as they have offices here state side. They are considered to have one of the best drags in the business and at the end i loved the feel of the reel. It is an investment for me but in the end I got a great deal which made it a no brainer.

I had the pleasure of running Alutecnos reels on Mischief and they never missed a beat. The Avet's do not match up in fit and finish IMO. This will always be a ford - chevy thing when it comes to reels but I have also enjoyed Penn 50VSW and still run them on Seaker along with some Accurate products. I think the bottom line is go with YOUR CHOICE as they will all get the job done.

I noticed you fish with your children and not knowing how old the youngest one is or if the admiral joins you but a two speed can really help a younger angler. My still favorite rod is a pitch rod I purchased from Stew with an Accurate single speed on it...

Most folks cannot handle nor should they attempt to handle 50#'s of drag from a moving boat with at sea conditions...it's simply too risky.

Good luck and may you enjoy many good days at sea

thanks Seaker

I used my brand spanking new Alutecnos 50w 2 speed this week down off venice and it was great. We needed to get the drag dialed in though with the pre sets other than that it was great. The only thing that can get you in trouble is the lack of stopper at strike. You can very easily push it up to ful with meaning it but it has such a solid retrieve to it and the two speed kicks a**.

The Chaos rod I paired it with is the TB 50-130 rod but man does it have action. I love the rod, absolutely love it. Good backbone with a fast tip and all quality components I couldnt suggest chaos rods any more

I do fish alot with my son alot and that factored into my desicion alot. thanks for the input

I was on Avets Pro Staff for a short time. RUN AWAY!!!! I had custom EXW4/0 2 speeds and they were garbage. I sold them on Ebay and went to Penn VSW's and have not looked back.

Easy to service the Penns, proven reels and the price is not that bad.

Avets have had a slew of issues and everyone calls it growing pains, Penn and Shimano have worked through theirs years ago go with a proven winner.

If you want to drop BIG$$$ You could also add Accurate into the mix, but thats kind of a horse of another color.

Terry I had a 70 vsw in my hands that wouldn't retrieve line no matter what was done It had 5# dolphin on the other end You don't like them fine but the vsw's have had as many issues or more take one apart and measure the parts and they have a much wider tolorance spec with an inferior set of bearings that must be changed to come as close to spinning like an avet

Shimanos are a proven product. Here in OC many a TLD has still been fishing way past it's service due date reliably! Lee Green from Stalker Outfitters told me at the Atlantic City show that the new TLD 50 2-spds were going to be made stronger and were still under $400 .00. I beleive the Alutecnos are good reels but what do you do about service? Locally, without shipping your reels out? Shimano, Penn, Accurate and Avet have their support networks set up. I have TLDs and Trinidads and would not trade them.

At the end of the day shimanos are great reels. I have always used shimano but I really liked the feel of the Alutecnos over the tiagra. I have a matching set of trinidads for myself and my son matched with shimano tallus bluewater rods along with TLD 50's a 30, and a torsa. As I said earlier the feel I got from the Alutecnos was awesome and after using them already on my last trip, I wouldnt change. Alutecnos has several service centers that are a overnight shipping away. I rolled the dice on the service but everyone i spoke to that had them said the service has been excellent.
