New Tuna Lures for the 2008 Show Season

Hey Everyone
First I want to thank all the great people at NBS for their support of Atlantic Offshore Lures (AOL)and Rhode Island Poppers. You guys have become like a family. I'm putting together some new products for the upcoming season that will be featured at the shows on Long Island and in Providence. I've got a line of Birds which some of you have seen and they swim like WILD. Well I've teamed them up with some Larger single lures and some daisy chains. Here is one of my Lime green AOL Custom Bird with a 12" green Machine rigged with dbl Brass crimps and an 11/0 7754D. This thing is tough:

I've got them with other color options and lure choices.

Also I've got a bunch of new Diasy Chains with: Shell Squid, Tuna Feather, etc. Here is one with 3 zuccini Tuna Feather and a Zuccini Jet Head:

All the lure packaging has gone pro and the components are TOP OF THE LINE. I can't wait to get these infront of you guys.

Thanks for taking a look I'd love your feedback.

Tight Lines

Armand

Thumbs up RI Popper

i have a suggestion you should try to paint some of your new birds in a light gray, tan, or white color. I have found that most of my fish have come from the lighter colored birds in the past they always out produce the other colors that are bright.

those look great they should defiantly put fish in the boat. I love the color combo of that jet behind the feather daisy chain.

Thanks very much for the kind words Capt Blake. I'm working on another batch of birds here very shortly so I will definately put some of those colors into the line-up. I'm gonna try to get a picture of my Tuna-Feather Spreader bars

Armand, I like the looks of that Bird!!!

One question though, it looks like it has a through wire similiar to a casting plug. Have you ever tested to see the breaking strength of that setup? I'm not critisizing but that looks like a weak spot to me. It might be interesting to hook that up and put a pull on it to verify, you may already know the answer to that question so I though I would bring it up.

You could also rig it with the mono right through and crimp the thimble and swivel in. Just a thought.

Nice work!!

Bryan, Thanks for the nice comments. I'm 280 pounds and I can swing from it I put airplain cable through one side on a tree in the yard and made a loop on the other. I pulled as hard as I could. It is stronger than the 350 mono

Nice looking stuff, Armand....

The bird issue with wiring could be solved by crimping a second heavy mono attachment to the front monster swivel, incase the bird breaks. This gives you added security when that monster takes hold.

I never pay much attention to the color of the bird, it is much more important that it creates a commotion. The design you have looks like it will make some serious noise!

Hey Dom. I don't think the through wire is any issue, I just went outside with 2 pieces of 350 pound mono and tied 2 large loops one went over the swing set and the other I stepped in and jumped in it. Well the wire did stretch a very little but stayed solid and eventually the 350 leader broke. I'd hate to see what someone would need for main line to have that fail

Armand, I have had failures on a very similar design that incorporated the through wire setup like yours. The breaking strength is not the only factor to consider. The reason I mentioned the heavy mono crimping, is due to the stretch factor and secondary back up should your through wire fail from the body breaking. Since I started crimping, on 2 seperate occasions the body broke, along with the through wire, but the mono prevented a total loss and got the fish in the boat(one was a marlin, the other a bluefin) In both instances, the bird was struck first either by the same fish(marlin), or another(pack of bluefin in the spread).

The through wire breaking strength on the ones I use is far superior to that of the mono which I now crimp on myself to the style like yours. The ones I use have metal wings, and are very good at raising fish. The design is almost identical to yours....

The forces at play during a strike are very much different than once the fish is hooked and running away with the lure( basically static pressure as opposed to violent, sudden pressure). It is a very inexpensive way to alleviate those fisherman like me and many others who fish with their eyes first, IMHO. The crimps and line will add negligible cost. Simply crimp in the mono to the swivel, run it down the back of the bird, and crimp it again to the swivel where the lure itself attaches.

Just a suggestion.

I completely understand Dom. I've seen that done and I alwayse assumed everyone did that who bought the birds. But it' would be an awesome feature to do befor-hand for the end user. I've got some beautiful 400 pound Stren Hi-Impact mono Leader that would work great!

Thanks
Armand

I will for sure want a few to try, see you at Providence show. I will be happy if I can save the step of crimping on the mono myself. I have plenty of other things to tweak and rig.

I think the resin wings will provide better water disturbance, as they probably flex a bit, kicking up more than my metal ones.

I know that I fall into that 'ol cliche that really great lures catch more fisherman than fish, but I just can't help myself.....
