NWC- epic tuna battle

Fished the nwc yesterday on a solo trip. nice weather but a ton of boats. went beyond the bank and saw some activity. Dropped back a 12in sluggo and got a nice hit. Tried to figure out how to fight the fish and drive at the same time. tried chasing him, having him pull the boat but he just kept swimming out to sea. After a few hours, i put the rod in my horizontal rod holder, trimmed the engine out of the water, straddled the gunwhale and slowly gained a few inches as he circled. After 5 HOURS!, i got him along side and got a gaff in him. tough fight, we were both truely exhusted. Does anybody have a guess how much a FAT 61 inch fish weighs? I was trolling a 6/0 senator, spooled with 80lb and a great stand up rod, the fish just didnt seem to care. By far the best battle i have had with a fish, including a 500lb. marlin on stand up.

Congratulations Connor

Congratulations on a great fish especially on a Senator 6/0. Conor is a friend of mine who I have fished with before. Please welcome him aboard the NBS site and we hope to see him posting often with the NBS crowd.

Dave
