oopps we did it again

Well we got our 40 lb striper in the spring we got our 150 lb bluefin tuna on our first outing and we got our first keeper wip tail yesterday...

After a 2 day canyon trip thursday and friday I dont need to tell you that Hoopa and I were exausted but we promised my brother in law we would take him sharking on saturday and we are men of our words. So saturday morning we picked him up and headed for the cape to get hoops boat.

We launched in falmouth and headed out to middle ground to see if we could get a few live blues. Well as usual we suck at catching blues except when we are trolling $100.00 bars out east. After an hour with chunk bait and catching 2 black sea bass, 2 fluke, and 4 scup, we desided to try trolling a bit. Well 20 mins and we had 5 nice 4 to 5 lb blues in the well and we were headed out to the blue water south of the vineyard.

We were headed for the claw but when we got there there were 3 other boats in the area with the same idea we had so we desided to push a little further south.

We found a nice spot wit hno other boars for about 3 1/2 miles and deployed the chum and set the 3 rods. The far bait was set 100 yards out and 75' down with a live bluefish, the second rod was set about 75 yards out 50' down with a butterflied mackeral, and the near rod was set 30 yards and 25' down with a bluefish filet.. and now the wait..

An hour goes by and no signs of life and then the near balloon does a little dance and then nothing. About 3 mins later it starts to run off. the run stoped and then just a slow but steady click.

Well i desided to grab the rod expecting it to run again. It only kept going out slow so after about 50' i desided to slam on the breaks and cross his eyes..... FISH ON

This was my brother in laws trip so he put on the belt and the fish was all his.. The first 15 mins this fish stayed down and would not show himself and we were thinking big blue. Then all of a sudden he desided to come up and went to the air about 75' off the stearn Hoopa and i look at each other and yell THRESHER!!!!

It was 20 more mins before we saw it again and then down it went again. 15 more mins and we had it boat side, stuck it the the flying gaff, tail roped it and raked the gills. This bad boy was ours

Durring the first few mins of the fight the far rod with the live bluefish went off for a quick 5 second run but no one was able to get on the rod in time. It was far enough away and the fish we had on was almost strait up and down so we left it out to see if it would come back for a second pass. It never happened....later when we pulled it in to check the bail it had bite marks on it but the blue was intact so we figured it was another Thresher....

We set the spread out for about another hour and a half but no more takers so we headed to the barn to cut up so steaks.

The thresher measured 72" CFL and had a girth of 43"

We did not get a weight on it but we estimate around 200 lbs +-

pics to follow

Hey hoop,
I still can't believe that Arctek arch held that sharks weight. The guy that built it just may have some talent and a future building arches and towers...
