Relentless Today Nice Tuna

Well,

I will keep it brief because I was not there today when Capt Curt took the RELENTLESS out on a tuna and groundfish charter. Stepping aboard was repeat customer Barney Prisco from upstate NY along with three friends.

I was home when the phone rang and Curt asked me to meet him at the dock as they were coming in with a 77" fish with a 54" girth. We met them at the dock and they were all smiles to say the least. Curt headed back out after offloading the estimated to be around 300 LBS and nicely round.

I will let Curt fisnish the report later tonight or tomorrow and add more photos as I do not want to steal his thunder and he can provide you with a more accurate account of the day.

Respectfully,

Dave Waldrip

Another milestone was met Yesterday. I boated my first tuna over 73".I am still very pumped up as I'm sure the crew is as well.

Shawn Keahon was the angler and has fished on Relentless with us many times.Hans was my mate for today and did an outstanding job.Everyone was calm and focused throughout the battle.

We had lines in around 6:45 and started at the S W corner and headed north on the edge.Had great marks of tuna and bait most of the way up then the life went away.Full 180 and heading south through all the boat traffic.I was scanning for a path when I hear the port rigger pop and turn to see the rod over Hard.Hans and the crew cleared the other lines and then he took the helm I helped Shawn with the rod and harness and got him settled in.(fish on 7:35) Hans and I knew it was a bigger fish by the way he was pulling line we kept Shawn calm and told him to take it slow and be patient. We did not want him to panic over the size of the fish.
I am back at the helm now and trying to get the boat and the fish out of the pack but they all see us hooked up and follow. We did our best to get out of the fleet.
The fish and Shawn went back and forth for a while and Hans and I tried to keep him off the stern quarter for most of the battle.Shawn started to make some good progress and I had to tell him that the fish had not seen the boat yet and what to expect. The fish took a short run after seeing us and then he came up and rolled about 30 feet behind the boat and everyones heart skipped a beat but Shawn stayed tight. This was the first time Shawn could finally see what he was up against. We had most of the line back I made one small adjustment to the drag and Shawn had the fish boatside. With Hans on the gaff I leadered the fish up Hans nailed a perfect gaff shot up through the side of the head.We pulled him in the tuna door roped him off and the celebration began(8:40) 75 1/2 " guessing around 250
We headed back in to Green harbor dropped off the fish with Captain Dave and headed back out to go groundfishing.

Big thanks to Hans and the crew(Barney Prisco,Frank Fischer and John Farrell) and Congrats to Shawn on his catch.
