RELENTLESS Tuna Report for August 29th

Today we had aboard the Rich Barnes party for a two boat trip aboard RELENTLESS and Ocean Runner. Rich and his party are from upstate New York and wanted to make the trip to Stellwagen to try for some Bluefin Tuna.

I called Rich yesterday who was in Albany early evening and told him I wanted to be off the dock at 0400. The groups arrived on time and I felt good about the early start witht he recent early morning feeding that has been going on. There was no wind at all which I was not too excited about. We arrived on the bank in the dark to find about eight boats already trolling. We set our rigs out in the late moonlight and worked the edge of the bank. I only saw a few fish caught after two hours and was cursing about the lack of wind and made a move to an area I found the prior day with much more life consisting of bait, whales and birds. Once there and after ten minutes we hit our first fish a nice 48" bluefin tuna.

We quickly got back ont he troll and could not get a hit. Greg checked the rigs for weed and set ou the lines when we herd that beautiful sound of pop, followed by the sound of a screaming reel. Tater reeled in a nice 46" buterball which gave him a pretty good battle on the Shimano 50 class outfits.

We kept working the area when the port black squid bar was hit hard again on the flat line right behind the transom. This time Rich landed a nice 48" fish giving us our legal limit for the day.

At the end of the day we landed one more 48" fish which was landed quickly and released for another day. Our other boat landed two nice tuna for the day and Rich and his party went home with enough tuna to feed friends and family for a while.

We will be running more shared and private charters for tuna and other species while they are here and hungry. If interested in getting out, please send an e-mail to captdave@relentlesscharters.com

It was an awesome day on the water and can't wait to get back out there again in the AM.

Respectfully,

Captain Dave Waldrip

Nice Work

Great work Dave. You always put your clients on fish. Can't wait to join you out there. We were in Florida last week and did some Sword fishing with Peter on "My Other Honey". Great time.
