Unhappy SAD DAY

The Death of F/V WhipTail:

After having so many issues lately with engines quitting , etc, I had the boat in for a major look see. It sat in the water for the first time 2 days in a row, and unfortunately there was a previously unknown major stress crack mid ships, which allowed enough salt water to intrude which the bilges finally couldnt keep up with, and the ass end submerged.

The vessel is a total loss, all electronics and both engines suffered critical failures.

I guess it could have been worse, could have happened with someone onboard. No injuries, and insurance will hopefully take care of most of my loss.

I doubt I will be getting much sleep over the next few days.

Sorry to hear about your loss! Things now-a-days are tough enough without the addition of any more grief, especially when it comes at a very bad time; just prior to the peak of the Fall fishing season. I pray that you recover quickly from this setback.

Hey Dom, Sorry to hear about the boat. Glad no one was hurt and as you said no one onboard. If there is anything Joe and I can do please call. The Rebel is sitting there if you can use it.

Dom - that just suxs, really sorry to hear it. Whiptail was such a one of a kind. But, like you say, the very bright side of things is that no one was on board, and none hurt. That could have been a really bad situation far off-shore.

Good luck w/ the insurance side of things, and I hope they get you squared up quickly.

I like to look at boat listings like a bad habit, so let me know if you are on the hunt, and I'll keep my eyes open for you. Keep us posted on how it works out for you.

Dom That sucks out loud. I am guessing you are done for the season?

If you get the itch and need to get out on the water hoop and i would be more the happy to have you aboard.

Hope the insurance Co. comes through for you and you are back up and putting people on fish next season..

It's a real sinking feeling (pardon the pun) to see a submerged vessel......for it to be your own, I can't imagine. Really sucks. Someone at our marina last year lost his during that wicked storm we had, and my heart went out to him.

Hopefully your insurance acts promptly! I have heard some horror stories about many marine insurance companies, but I know there are good ones also!

Sorry to hear that, Dom. I was so looking forward to making runs with you on that boat. Hope plan B works well for remainder of the season.

Not even close to done!

Plan B is already afoot....hopefully I get the contender back soon, then its a no brainer. However, I am on the hunt as we speak, looking 26-30 CC with twins.

The boat was a one of a kind, for sure, and will be missed, but to me was just a tool in my toolbox.(albeit a very expensive on)...That is what insurance is for, and I been paying out a long time with no claims, so nice to have it be there for me now.

I will find another sled, and will be back at it in no time. The way I look at it, its me and my abilities that make me successful, not some dumb hunk of fiberglass and engine.
