End game on sharking(especially BIG sharks) is something you should do only after having been witness to it live and in person several times by a knowledgeable, experienced gaff man....Videos and books just don't cut it with this one, IMHO.

If you truely must go at it without being able to get someone who knows what they are doing, please do read every book or article you can get your hands on, be sure Fred Archers Shark books are ion there, he goes into good detail with diagrams on proper flying gaff placement.

Harpoons are are another option, but again, any time you plan on sticking the iron to a pissed off shark with no prior experience, don't be surprised if you become an instant candidate for the Darwin Awards(if you and your boat make it back in one piece)

Sharking is not to be taken lightly, as even the best have died at the hands of a shark(Capt. Billy Verbanas, to name just one) My best advice is get some time in with an experienced crew either on charter or as a crew member on a top private boat. You can even find good gaff men willing to work on your own boat as a mate for the day if you look around your marina or online in the chat sites......

Thumbs up

Good copy Dom: "Live and in person" A little different than a video, or a book.
