What have you got to say about the topic of: "Star Island Shark Tourn. Results". Here's how is started: "The fish was disqualified because the boat agreed that they were late to the weigh "

| The fish was disqualified because the boat agreed that they were late to the weigh in. There is more to it than that, but that is the official story. I think Star Island screwed up by not throwing the guy out of the tournament completely. Quote:

| Form what I heard, form people there, was the shark (tiger/dusky) was DQ'd because it did not seem to be killed that day. The shark did not bleed and the liver was grey. They did fish the next day and the shark only was DQ'd. I don't think anyone will REALLY know the story unless you happened to be the team involved.

| The first day DQ was because it was not a Tiger and was mis identified for a non qualifying shark. It was also determined to be FRESH caught that day by the biologists, whom used it for studies.. The shark was NOT frozen there was NO cheating, ALL RUMORS..... | ||

| Just found this: Star Island To all, I would like to thank all who participated in the 22nd Annual Star Island Shark Tournament. There has been a lot of talk, speculation and exaggerated “fish tales” of what occurred on Friday. Posted internet blogs are making claims of cheating and that inappropriate relationships exist between Star Island and certain individuals. These accusations ARE FALSE. Star Island does not maintain inappropriate relationships with tournament entries or any individuals that would grant or curry favor. The bottom line is: No one cheated. A fish arrived at the dock. Immediate action was taken and the fish was disqualified without delay. That alone should end the stories and allow all participants to feel comfortable that at Star Island the rules are enforced. On Friday, when the boat arrived, the anglers informed us that they had a Tiger Shark. At that time, a tournament participant approached a judge informing him that they were prepared to protest the fish because they claimed the boat returned late. While the “late ruling” was being confirmed, the process of lifting the fish from the boat began. Once the fish was lifted out, it was determined by the NMFS Scientists that the fish was a Dusky, which made the late issue a moot point as the fish was automatically disqualified. Immediately we took action. The scientists notified their superiors who logged the information and requested the dissection of the fish for marine study purposes. In addition, the scientists confirmed the fish was a fresh catch. The judges decided that there was no foul play. The anglers made an honest non-intentional identification mistake and therefore they were permitted to fish on day two. We did not announce what occurred due to ethical, moral and legal obligations. Our first obligation was to report the catching of this fish to the proper authorities. Until that report was complete we could not speak about the situation. While the species of the fish takes precedent the point of the boat being late was not objected to. So the rumor spread that the boat was late. While many would have broadcasted this honest mistake our immediate obligation was to fulfill our reporting requirements, not to ostracize the anglers. Star Island runs this tournament for the love of sports fishing in a family environment. When someone makes the accusations that have been made, it implies that I would jeopardize the reputation of the Tournament, Star Island, its owner and myself. I find those accusations to be outrageous. My goal has always been to make the Star Island experience a great one for you. As of this writing our reporting requirements have been met. So, for the record; no-one cheated. An honest identification mistake was made; the fish was a fresh catch. I hope this satisfies all of your concerns. Respectfully Yours, Richard Janis General Manager
