ran to stellwagen this morning, got there & saw the usual humbacks and lots of sandeels in the water. a few footballs showing themselves on the surface, maybe 4 definite spottings spread out over 5 hours. we were fishing spreader bars like usual. about 1 hour in (we were out early), way back bar goes off. new angler on the rod does it all right but fish spits the hook after taking a bunch of line off the reel. about 2.5 hours in, just as we're thinking that we are going to have to wait for the tide to turn to spark something, we see something playing with the way back bar. 1 splash 2 splashes 3 splashes. they weren't big swings and misses and we're saying out loud 'bluefish', then whamo the bar gets smashed and no question, it's charlie. finally get a solid hook set and no issues bringing this fat 50" fish to boat, the first for this angler...1 fish makes all the difference, great day for us... | ||
