Wessagussett is actually a 2 mile no wake zone. At 5 mph thats closer to 20 minutes. I hate that ride. I only use that ramp to take the family on cruises around the islands. Once out of the zone it's another 4 miles to get through the gut. So it 6 miles to open water and to get a bearing on the NWC.

Then it's 23 miles from there to NWC. I didn't think it was really that far but I just checked the charts. That makes it 30 miles ramp to bank. Ouch..

What makes it more interesting is that from GH the NWC is only 24 miles, plus SWC is only 16 miles

The most versatile launching point is Scituate though.
NWC = 18 mi
SWC = 19 mi
Mid = 21 mi

Unless trailer to Scituate or GH is a problem they are the better places to get to any areas of the bank

fishing bank

Hey High Tech,

I fish Ma waters bank, RP, alot.

If I hit SWC and/or RP I go out of Plymouth its a straight shot out RT 44, 40 miles, costs $5. Easy ride to SWC. Make sure you buy the ticket from the machine before you head out or they ticket you.

For pts north, I used to use Green Harbor till they up'd out of state to $21. The ride from RI is kinda a pain anyway.

If I go north, I go out of Scituate, it's free. Go 95n to south on RT3 ,60miles. Eassy ride out to NWC, mid bank.

Keep an eye on theweather guys. This weekend looks a bit sporty for the small boat crowd. 10 to 15 out of the N NE this time of year could give you a good 3 to 5 with tops head sea going out. Looks like it may lay down a bit in the afternoon and the following sea should make the ride back a bit better. Fall weather in New England

If you have the boat for the seas good luck out there and catchum up..

I am on the hard working this weekend. Work is stupid busy and it don't look to be letting up. It is seriously cutting into my fishing. I may be able to squeek in one more trip but am pretty much done for the season..

What's a little weather ;)

I think it's on Jericho Rd.

The weather simply sucks. I was primed for another slammer trip this weekend.. Bummer.

Sad part is Nov will calm down, about 12 hours after they close the bank for cod.

Like Fish4 said Plymouth is the best ramp from points south i.e. RI/CT. We have done the Sandwich and Plymouth ramps and I prefer the Plymouth ramp as it is a shorter run on the road and no difference in water miles to the SWC. If you are thinking about the NWC then you are going to have to go with the other advice as we have not fished that area of the bank.

Plymouth is a good ramp and from a trailering POV from RI it may be the best bet for road mileage, but you have 7 miles just to get to open water and even with GH's longitude. That makes the run 24 miles to SWC and considerably more for any other place on the bank.

Given the choice between burning a little more fuel on the road to get to GH but have better striking options or a lot more fuel on the water I'd be heading north and eat the extra 10 miles in the truck. But that's me.

NO Question GH. The only reason you should bother to launch out of Plymouth is if you are looking to get some live pogies before you go out. You have to transit Duxbury Bay before you hit the opening like McLeaves stated.

I even went all the way to the BC/Nauset area a few times this summer from Green harebor, much better than driving all the way to Chatham and dealing with those issues that come with it. 20 miles to the corner of PH, another 27 down off Nauset, 30 to BC, not bad, considering I run 60 miles to fish shark here in southern New England.

Scituate offers the best shot to all points with least water miles, but the ramp and facilities at GH are superior in every way. I got out of the water at full moon dead low on Tuesday evening. The $21.00 for the daily ramp fee is steep, but I got the seasonal for $200 and launched over 20 times, making it less than 10 bucks per drop.

The ride on 44 to Rte. 3 is the same either way, then its only 15 minutes and 11 miles further to Brant Rock. 51 miles each way from RI(Portsmouth) and no traffic issues except here and there on 44 in Raynham/Taunton area.

Dom brings up a good point on moon low tides. I just barely got my boat out of Plymouth on Wed, & only b/c there were two of us. A buddy had to sit out the tide solo on thur. The ramp ends and has a bad drop off that you hit on low tides. Our trailers were bottoming out on it. A real pain.

I have not launched out of GH, mainly b/c I am more familiar w/ Ply, and usually grab pogies otw out.
