I have a 1979 21 CC Mako. It is a great boat for LIS fishing. If I was looking to up grade I would go with the
1976-1982 Mako 25 CC.

Be careful with the older Mako hulls. They have wood in transom, floors, and stringers. Have it surveyed and check the above.
Also gas tanks in those years will need to be replaced. But they are great Hulls. Good luck in you rsearch.

i was just thinking that if you are going to follow this high end trend (contender, reg, etc...) you may also want to consider southport 26. i had the pleasure to fish on one this summer and it was very impressive.

i would avoid the old mako route unless you like working on your boat more then fishing (seriously, i know many guys that do). I had one and was very happy(and in some ways sad) to see it go.

Zac
your correct --I like working on my Mako as much as fishing on it. It is now all redone and I am looking for a 25 CC for a project boat.

I have 23 contender 2001 very happy with the boat very seaworthy best laid out 23 footer on the market one level deck is price less the beilge is roomy easy to work in wiring super neat big fish boxes boats are heavier then contender says 23 footer weighs around 4500 pounds thats fuel, motor, tee top if your look for a contender thats 25 feet long take alook at the 23 tournment same size as 26 regulator
