Tuna Around Peaked Hill

I was just wondering if anyone could provide tuna reports before these nasty N/NE winds kicked in the last few days. Looking for any reports from Peaked Hill down to South of the balls. We are heading out Saturday AM before the SE winds blow in the afternoon for a cod/tuna combo trip. Any information is appreciated.

Regards,
Capt. Roland Lizotte

Sorry Capt, I dont think anyone has been able to get out much this week. I couldnt even surf cast due to the 15' swells blasting Gloucester. Saturday morning is going to be the only weather window for the next several days. Should still be tuna and def. Cod on the NWC as the water is still in the low 50s. I'll be out there rolling the dice too.

Tuna and Cod

We are going tomorrow for a cod charter and may drag some rigs for a while for some tuna. We will see what happens with the weather. If all goes well we may sneak out for a few hours of cod fishing Sat AM.

The last time I went out we fished peaked hill on the 13th and 14th.The water temp was 56 and the fish were on top all day.We kept one at 55 inches and let two others about the same size go, on both days.We were useing black bars about one mile from were the buoy used to be.Good luck, I am trying to put a crew of friends together for the afternoon.

Thanks for the replies guys (especially the bar information from Mark). right now we are shooting for the open slot tomorrow morning before the SE winds blow late. As long as the temps are holding in the mid 50's and bait is still around, the fish will be there. Just trying to make the decision of fishing the Northern parts of the bank for cod/tuna or stick around the southern ends. With the forecast tomrrow, we are probably sticking around the sourthern sides with the wind forecast. At least it will be on our backside for most of the ride back. Thanks again.

Best Regards,

Gloucester, Ground Fishing Saturday

I will be launching my boat out of Gloucester tomorrow early morning for my last ground fishing trip of the year. Hopefully the weather will co-operate and the fish will be hitting.

Thanks Alloy and Roland.Got one yesteday morning, 58 inches on a trick or treat colored bar in that area and then went east for some groundfish. We got some short cod and a few nice pollack on jigs with pink teasers in about 300 feet. It was nice to get out after the last several days of wind.I think that pollack is as good as cod and haddock when cooked fresh. The tuna was released in good shape,it was my buddies first bluefin and he thought it would be good karma to let his first one live to fight another day.

Great Tuna Action Saturday AM

Mark, just wanted to thank you again. I called and spoke to Rosie last night so hopefully she passed the information along to you. We had a great trip Saturday AM before the winds kicked things up. Lots of top water action around, could not get a fish to hit the bird bars and once we started casting to them, the action picked up. We had a couple of missed fish and then managed to grab a nice 60" fish, pushed 125lbs. We were on the fish for about 30-40 minutes before it came over the rails. The fish was fat. All the fish were up on the surface for a good 2 hours and lots of bait around. The ride back was not too bad, 3-5' seas with a stiff 15-20 SE wind. Thanks again, I will be reaching out to you this week with a couple of questions. That may have been the last charter for us of the season and we ended on a positive note.
