Here is a report that my buddy matt posted on another website from our day of casting to them today...just an incredible day i will never forget.

I've always said that my best fishing trips are the ones that I prepare for the least. The last-minute trips always seem to pan out while the trips that I prepare for days in advance always suck. Today proved this theory once again.
Last night at 8pm I found out that the guys I was supposed to fish with cancelled their trip leaving me with no plans for the day. I slept late (7am which is late for me) and woke up and decided to take my boat out in the bay to chase tuna. I called Buckman Jr and he was in. I always launch in Plymouth but today I decided that I was going to drive to Green Harbor. I have never launched out of Green Harbor before today. We got out on the bank and got into some spotty fish pretty quick. We were butterfly jigging to no avail but we each caught a slob striper, Jeff's was pushing 30lbs.
Around noon I got a call from a friend that told me about a few big pods of fish that were just a couple miles away. We ran over there and found them without much trouble. Jeff hooked up on one of the first pods we fished. A big tuna chased his popper out of the bunch missing it 3 or 4 times before coming completely out of the water 10 feet from the boat and getting it. Jeff watched the fish eat his popper and then swung back and set the hook on the fish? It looked like he pitch a jig to it. Just an awesome hookup. He kicked this fish's ass and had it to the boat in 15 minutes. We gaffed it and put this fish in the box. (I think it was 58 inches and it broke a 100lb scale back at my house). This was his first spinning rod tuna so he was pumped.
Next it was my turn. I hooked up shortly after on a nice fish that made an incredible first run. With 65lb braid and my new shimano saragosa I wanted to hammer on this fish and get it in quick. I cranked the drag down and had a nice 60 inch fish to the boat in about 20 minutes. We released this fish boatside and it swam away. Jeff then noticed that my brand new reel was toast. The fish melted the drag on the reel. Junk.
After that we both hooked up and dropped a couple of fish. With big thunderstorms heading in from the South we found another aggresive pod of fish and Jeff hooked up again. Once again this fish chased his popper to the boat and ate it 10 feet from the boat. Just an awesome sight. He fought this fish for 30 minutes and was almost begging for mercy by the time we released it. This was a slob of a tuna. 60+ inches and maybe even 65.
With chain lightning all over the sky to the South of us we ran in wide open. Just as we got into Green Harbor we could see lightning hitting the water off Plymouth and heavy, heavy rains. If we had launched out of Plymouth instead of Green Harbor we would have had to run right into it Just as we got into the truck the skies opened up and started pouring rain. We made it in just in time. A great day on the water I'll let Jeff fill in the rest.
