Lightbulb ??tuna Tagging??

Hey guys I am Looking to get a few tags to keep handy on my boat to tag short Bluefin tuna. I caught a few last season and rather than just let them go I wanted to mabey stick a few with tags this year. I went to the NMFS web page and it seems like they no longer support the tagging of billfish/tuna as the page has not been updated since 2004. I went on the tag a giant website too. While I agree with what they are trying to do they do not offer tags that are affordable by recreational anglers. Any help with this matter would be appriciated.

Tag a Tiny

Hi there,

A good program can be found here: http://www.tunalab.unh.edu/Tagatiny.htm Don't know if they are still doing it, but the web would have links for you as well....

The Billfish foundation also has a bluefin program , and their tags are like $6 for 10 tags. AFtco tag stick for larger fish, hand tagger for small.....

I also recommend getting involved with the Apex Predator program here in RI if you shark fish as well. Those blue sharks can really put some miles on!!!

Thanks I have shark tags and have stuck a few with no returns but I chase tuna more often. I usually only fish for sharks in tournaments. Thanks for the info.

I checked out that web site. If I only knew that there was a college program set up for learning about TUNA . I would not have spent the last 5 years at Wentworth going for Construction Management. I would be interested in Nuno's phone #.

The program you want is Nuno Fraguso's Tag a Tiny up at UNH. They supply tags to you free of charge. Pm me for details.

Thanks mzajac, I have already contacted Nuno at the Tag-a-tiny and am waiting to here back from him.

Hello Dan,

Thank you for signing-up to participate in the UNH-Large Pelagics Research Center ?s Tag-A-Tiny Program. Details are being finalized for tagging seminars that we will be holding next month. Hopefully you will be able to attend one of them as this is when we will be distributing conventional ID tags. Once I have full details I will pass them along. In the interim, you can hear Dr. Molly Lutcavage talk about her tagging program at the Saco Bay Fishing Seminar this Saturday in Biddeford Maine .

Regards,

Nuno

Let me know how you make out Danny. I've tagged half a dozen or so shorts but don't have any returns. I still might have some tags too...
