A Flood Watch is in effect for So. New England, except Cape Cod & the Islands through early Sunday. The rain, which has already begun, will produce heavy bands throughout MA over the next 36 hours, particular from NE MA, south along the I-95 corridor. 3-5" is expected, with up to 6-8" locally. Small stream and urban street flooding is expected, with potential minor flooding from smaller rivers and the tributaries of the main stem rivers.
Tropical Storm Kyle could reach hurricane force as it approaches New England on Sunday. Although it is expected to pass well east of Cape Cod & the Islands, computer models now have it drifting further west, potentially passing within 50-100 miles of the region. Being on the west side of the storm, we could see as much as an additional 1-3" of rain from Kyle on Sunday. Presently winds on Cape Cod and the Islands would be more 'tropical force' with some potential for some beach erosion on the Outer Cape and the East Coast of Nantucket. This fast-moving storm should only produce a 1' storm surge, and 10' seas along the immediate coast, producing some 'splashover'. Obviously the track of Kyle will be the key to its impact and bears continued close monitoring.
