What happened in the Canyons this year???

What the hell happened to all the tuna this year? I have to read about all the BFT up the cape! I thought my 87 mile run to the canyons was tough so the cape run from Groton, CT is out!!!

I am jealous of all you BC & NWC guys for sure. Anyone got thoughts on the problem this year besides the obvious overfishing? Last year was great and July started out nice with 2 great trips then nothing!

Anyway, I guess I'll have to pony up for a charter up there!

I personally am not a canyon fisherman (yet) however from what I've seen this season inshore 40 miles or so I believe there has been some great fishing in close........but only my opinion. We've seen big Mahi, Grunts and 74 degree water few weeks back at Tuna Ridge. We also have seen so many sea turtles that it was like a slalom course out there.

The fact that Blue Marlin have been hooked at the Mud Hole earlier this season says something too........... I remember fishing the dump years back for shark and seeing schools of YFT busting on the surface.......

Only my opinion from fishing the area many times this season........

The info out of OC Maryland is that the YFT bite is very weak this season. Alot of Dolphin but most of those are just "Chickens". I see more boats going for Tilefish perhaps to fill the needs of the charter parties. Cold winds will blow soon and we can only hope for better fishing next year if any of us have money left to fish.

Who hooked Blue Marlin at the Mud Hole this year? A stray whitey, I could see, but a Blue?

The tunas never showed because the gulf stream never got closer then about 220 miles of nj. Normally it's about 140 and we catch the tunas in the eddies that break off of it, this year the eddies really never made it to the canyons. We could always hope for the turkeys to arrive. Anyone here where that big school of them is?

What Capt. Hook said is the reason why the canyon season was off this year. Very few Eddys ever broke off the stream and pushed into the canyons. There was that good slug of YFT in June at the Tails but that was short lived. Anyone fish that Eddy/Break at Hydro yet? RIPDOG is itching to go Just need the window now. Unfortunately, it doesnt look good for this week.

I'll second what Capt Hook stated. Last year the YFT left town around the end of August. They were tough to find in the Baltimore and Canyons to the south. This year, the YFT started some what slow, and never really turned on. However the BFT bite was better than it has been in years and they stayed longer. We even had a good few weeks of BFT in late July early August, but very few YFT beinf caught. Remember, just because the surface temp is reaching those magic temperatures, if its ot gulfstream water it will not hold much in the way of sport fish.

We were at the Mud Hole mid week back in Aug. and heard someone on the radio say they had one on............

Heard at Snug that someone landed one, and also was in JB East one weekend and they reported seeing a couple jumping a short distance from the Fairway Buoy...........

Unfortunately it wasn't us that had one on......

Rhinoke, the YFT were in the Northern Canyons, North of the Baltimore. The end of 2007 was not good for the Ocean City charter fleet.
