Where to get oils - South Shore

Anyone have a good recommendation on where to pick up some oils and foul weather gear on the South Shore? I am a big guy 6'5" 300+ and my brother is 6'7". None of the usual suspects would carry our size but I am assuming the commercial guys have a few haunts where larger stuff can be had.

April 1 is almost here and I predict it's gonna be wet and bloody. I usually just slug it out with a change of clothes but I'd rather get some waterproof gear. I've been looking (not terribly hard though) for years and never find anything..

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Remind me not to anger you, LOL

Hi Mike,

You will more than likely need to order yours, as you will be in a 4 or 5XL at your size. I worked with a dude who was 6'8" and 320#, he took a 5 XL, he had to order them online as the local store didn't carry that size. You could try RNR in Hingham, they have all sorts of commercial gear: Clothing Shop at RnR Marine Supply featuring Grundens, Guy Cotten, Atlas, Lacrosse, Viking, Ranger and many more

Also www.go2marine.com/productcenters/grundens

or www.american-workwear.com/grundens

Thanks Dom,

I don't mind ordering online at all, except with clothes, well, you know how it goes. How do you know what size you take in something like this, especially since I don;t have a point of reference (ie a previous set of gear)

I may just have to bite the bullet and order a few different ones and return the others.

Hi Mike,

I edited my post, forgot about RNR in Hingham...If I remember correctly, my buddy carl had to reorder his twice, so I know what you mean. You may luck out at RNR....I called Wilcox here in RI, the biggest they carry is 2x, which I know won't come close on you. The tougher buy will be the top, the bibs are easier...

I get my lobster gear at R&R (started last year - another reason I want them!!). Only 10 minutes form my house. I'll drop by there tomorrow and see what they have. At least if they have say a 2x or 3x I can gauge what to order.

I'm not sure if it's still there but there used to be a commercial gear shop in Green Harbor. Never went in but seemed from the window like they basically were for outfitting the commercial guys and their boats. Was wondering about those places. Sounds like you have been down this road though.

Thanks for checking Wilcox.. Appreciate the help!

Thanks,
M

Mike,

Capt Dom is right about Grundens. All the commercial guys here in Stonington and even the fish handling wholesale workers use the Grundens Herkules line. They love them. The construction of the suspenders alone makes me vow to never consider anyone else. We have a Mom and Pop Wilkox commercial outfitter here Stonington and they ordered out exactly what I wanted and for less than the list price. I did not have a size problem like you but I wanted a bib from the clipper line that comes with a fly. The Herkules line is heavier but no fly as it would only be another place for water intrusion. At my age, I was more concerned with water flow in the other direction.
