Yellowfin in Louissianna

Gentlemen,

As i write this I am at the the airport in Houston, Texas getting ready to leave for New Orleans on business (my first smiley, i am no longer a smiley virgin). I have a meeting at 1pm and by 1:30pm I will be on my way down to Venice where I will get ready to do battle on this weekend with the regions famed Lump Yellowfin tuna.

Tomorrow we will depart at 6am with myself and one of my customers and then tomorrow night after fishing I have to drive back up to New Orleans to go pick up my son Anthony who will be flying down solo to meet me so we can fish togther on Saturday.

Hopefully I will be able to give you all a good report on Sunday afternoon when I return. Tight Lines

Glenn

heres report number 1 ...

First before I report any news on the fishing today I would like to take the time to tell you that words cannot describe the tremendous damage and despair I saw first hand. Katrina ripped through lower Louissiana and spared no one. The area is completely desimated and it really touched me today seeing people trying to rebuild thier lives and communities ...ok now to fishing

I met the captain from REEL PEACE CHARTERS early after staying at the Cajun Fishing Adventure Lodge which is awesome. For $100 dollars per night they feed you breakfast, lunch and Dinner while providing you with an awesome facility. I decided to charter with REEL PEACE becuase of thier reputation and they brought thier A game today.

Unfortunately the Yellowfin have moved off the lump which meant we needed to trek 5o miles offshore, the first leg was through the Mississippi River which was extremely cold but once we broke into the gulf it warmed up. The day was overcast with 1-2 foot seas progressing into 4's quickly. We were in a 26 foot Glacier Bay Catamaran and boy that boat rides sweeeeet in a choppy sea.

We quickly made bait which consisted of hard heads, flat head mullets and runners, but trying to keep them away from the barracuda was quite the task. We started to drift live bait on two rods next two the large floating oil platform. I took my brand spanking new set up with me which was a Alutecnos 50W coupled with a CHAOS 6' 50-100 stand up rod. Almost immediately we got bit and within 10 minutes I had a healthy 50+lb yellowfin in the boat. Then the bite stopped except for the sister boat next to us who was killing them, we found out they were only biting on what appeared to be 4-5" baby spanish macs so we went to a spot loaded up and almost every time we put a mac in the water it got bit.

In the end I never got a shot at a big boy but landed 8 Yellowfin in the 50+ class one going 75# and by 1pm my arms were beat so we headed in early so I can pick up Anthony at the airport.

Tomorrow Anthony and I will be chasing them again, maybe at the lump where the fish have been scarce as of late but last week they had a 176, 189, 222 and a 211. Hopefully theres a couple left for us

Write back tomorrow got to get to the airport
