Capt Curt,
We are running 7.5 inch squid on the "large bars". Sometimes we replace the squid stinger with a 10 inch Slammer Stinger. Our small bait bars are either 5 or 6 inch squid or slammers. Also, on these we often add a larger 10 inch slammer stinger.
I have not pulled a spreader bar with big (over 10 inch) squid in over three years.

When we are trolling for bluefin (inshore or offshore) the only thing we change up is that we send a few lines long. These are usually Ballyhoo rigged slammers. We stick with the small ones (5") inshore and add at least one or two 10" Hoo dressed slammers when we push offshore..

The speed depends on a lot of conditions. We watch the spread and troll at the speed that generates the most action. When fishing for Bluefin, and we have dredges out we sometimes slow to 3 kts just to get the dredge down to where they are at, then we slowly increase speed, this is often a great trick to entice a bite. In general we troll from 5 to 8 kts spending most time around 6.5kts,.
