I wish the laws on poaching allowed for the forfeiture of the vessel.

Same as the prostitution laws.

How about Red Tail Air

How about Red Tail Air, swooping down, most likely taking photos and a GPS positon, Gotcha!!! The guy probally saw the video of the striped bass seining and said screw it. Once again I realize he was breaking the law and the law is the law but...what is the difference landing those fish where he was or one mile to the west. Open the EEZ now that the bass is declared a gamefish and let people spread out. It makes good sense to allow the EEZ to be open which would allow folks to fish for other fish in the same area, especially with the higher fuel prices. You can not take two recreational fish in the EEZ but you see thousands of dead 40 pound plus bass floating in the Great South Channel after being dragged and thrown back in the fall.

not to defend those who break the law, but, can someone explain to me the EEZ and it's purpose??

sometimes the actual demarcation lines can be confusing.

are we saying all those who hook a striper on SW ledge off block island are CRIMINAL? tried to pick up some blues there last year for sharkin' & i ran into a nice striper bite..........mk

mk,

The lines are not on any charts, for sure, and certainly would be cool if the chartplotters could drawn them in! The basic requirement is 3 nautical miles from the nearest point of land offshore.

There are several sections of SW ledge that can legally be fished...but the good part of it, and the sub buoy areas are off limits.

I agree with Dave, the rule needs serious adjustments.

Dom,

It is on all the charts, just labled Three Mile limit instead of EEZ.
