A wealth of information, inproves my offshore rigging as well as winter downtime.

Question.....What is the reason for using snaps minus the swivel. Trying to save weight, cost, feel there not needed? Maybe just less stuff to go wrong mentality?

I haven't gone through your site in much detail but I see you have kits. What are your hot sellers and which would you reccomend? Gotta support NB$ Advertisers.

Bryan: It boils down to cost and removal of mechanical items in your rig that can go wrong. Weight is another factor that you want to minimize. Make them light, pull more not less and watch your hookup rate climb. If you look at the spreader bar as a system, you will see there are many potential failure points. So, we try to reduce all of these (cost & potential failure points). One thing I have to stress over and over is WASH your Bars at the end of every day! We'll hit maintenance in another thread.
-
The introduction of our Kits has been a huge success. If you want to rig your own, we have a kit that will supply everything but the bar, it is sold separately. We also have pre rigged kits. These serve two purposes; One, if you don't have time to rig, this kit offers a complete replacement of pre-rigged lines; just snap them on and go.. Second, it is a great way to add more color and style options to your off shore tackle arsenal. Lots of folks just buy three or four bars from us and then just keep stocking up on the kits. We make it easy with coast lock snaps to switch out a complete spread. This is A great option for guys with small boats or limited storage. It will save ya a few bucks also.
-
It seems North of NJ color selections transition to red/black and blue/white and the purple/black slammers and for squid the Chartreuse Rainbow, the green/orange followed by the purple/black are the most popular.
-
I do not get too far north of the Baltimore canyon. So, I can only speak from sales numbers, not hands on. An interesting thread would be the transition of working colors from NC to ME.
-
Keep the feedback and dialog coming, thats what makes these threads great. Lots of folks with lots of knowledge and great ideas!

....We appreciate the support we get from those who run this site and its members. Great site and great people! It makes doing threads like this fun.

The Business End

Time to talk about the stinger.
We use 24 to 28 inches of 130# Momoi Blue Diamond. The hooks range from 6/0 to 8/0. We only use Mustad 7691 Stainless Steel. The squid are rigged in the same way as discussed above. You position the hook so that the bend is just beyond the skirt. Some like to hide it, others like to let it hang way back. We find this to be good middle ground and it has worked well for us. Notice, another big snap, and a few more Offshore Loop Knots.
-
This stinger system makes it easy to switch out hook baits. We sometimes run a bar with 6" bait and stick a 12" slammer back there as a stinger. Sometimes, a purple squid bar with a red/balck 12" slammer out fishes everything in the water. Its good to have options and a quick and efficient way to swap out and switch your game plan when needed. Here are a few pictures.

The green footballs are actually floats. At full stop, the entire spreader bar will float.
---------------------------------
That takes us from start to finish. Lets hear the questions, recomendations or just let us know how you do it.
I will start a thread on trolling tactics next week. Here is the bar in action:

Reel Draggin - I have been putting together a few bars out of stuff I had laying around. The only thing I had to buy were the squid and I got those at a local fishing show fairly cheap. I plan on ordering a few from you but in the time being cheap is good.
A few questions for the master though, how important is it that the first row of squid be in a straight line? You have yours set at about 18" from the bar. I was thinking of setting the center row that way then putting the outside ones about 5" closer. Would that change the way it ries or tracks? Good or bad? Just playing and trying to get through winter. Thanks in advance for the replies.

Bryan,
Actually, ours are not in a line. The center line leading squid is slightly forward of the left/right squids on the teaser lines. If the out side squid are forward of the center line squid the tips of your bar may tend to dip into the water causing it to cartwheel.

Cool

How often do you use a larger stinger than the other squids? Have you had much luck with tuna feahters instead of squids?
