King Cod Moriches Codfishing!

Crushed them good today!
"Lock and load" fishing, retained our 3 man limit and released just as many.
Most fish just over the 22" limit, with a half dozen between 10-14lbs.
Perfect drifting conditions. Bait worked better than jigs.
Our best trip of the season so far!
Thought I had some good pictures, but the camera's a piece of shit.

Very nice Capt. from what I hear not everyone out there had a successful day, still waiting to hear from more reliable sources. Good to hear they are still around.

Hey.

Just a question.
Are there many cod around nowadays?.
I was a deckie on the "North Sea" Trawlers, back in mid\late 50's.
Out of Hartlepool N.E England.

we used to fish Dogger bank and Longscar.
Sometimes out to Coast of Iceland. Till the Spanish.
Russian (With Steel Gunboats to match) and then the Jap fleets took over.(Mothershipping)

I thought they were pretty much an obsolete fish nowadays?.

We have new family in Clayton NC. Wouldn't mind going for a fish if poss,
What's the best time of yr to come over there.

I'd kill for some Cods Roe. Almost..

Should be a new thread....

Welcome

Cod has made a decent comeback, depending on who you talk to. Better in the boston area vs. rhode island/new york area, in my opinion. Look through the Groundfish section of this website and you can find a bunch of reports on the cod fishing.

Right now, groundfish is excellent, from what I hear - I haven't been able to make it out in a few weeks. Many people transition to Tuna in from june until october and overlook the groundfish.

Dave on the Relentless runs cod trips from April through late autumn here - look him up; Seaworm1 runs a boat - Crimson tide - and they are doing well also. There are countless other great boats in the boston area, but these are the boats I fish. June, July, August are warmer months with good numbers if you are on the right boat...

North Carolina is not a stones throw from where the cod are though... 13 hour car ride
