New Home Port

I may have to relocate from the west coast of Florida to Penn and will buy something in the 28-35 ft size to fish with. I'd like to be able mix it up a little with inshore fishing if it's too rough to make a canyon run and a Marina that I could keep the boat in the water during the winter if that's possible. It seems as if a 6 hour window (drive time) can put me anywhere from Brielle to Ocean City Maryland. It's been so long since I've fished up there (Grew up fishing on the South Shore of LI) that I have no favorite areas. Do any of you guys have ideas about a location that might make sense? Cape May looks good on paper but I've never fished there and Ocean City is an area that for some reason I've only associated with Offshore fishing (60+). After an all noght drive I'd like to be able to drown some bait even if it's for Fluke instead of just grabbing some sleep and turning around because the weatherman didn't look out of his window and screwed up again. Thanks in advance.

I've got a soft spot for Ocean City (Md.) as I'm a Md. native however I've seen a lot of changes for the worse there in recent years as the laid back family vacation spot has lost its history to the condo craze. There however is some great fishing to be had on the man made reefs if the run to the Canyons is out of reach on some days. The bays are really to shallow and crowded for a boat the size you are lookig at. I would suggest the Sunset Marina in West Ocean City its tops for service. There are several marinas down there. Have you thought about Southern Delaware in the Indian River area? Quick access to the ocean but the inlet can get crowed and nasty. Lewes De. and the Bethany Beach area also. Cheaper property taxes and a more quiet area. (Slower lower Delaware as its called) we plan on retiring in the Fenwick Island area just north of the Md. line. Good luck anyway.

Thanks Stormy
I'll have to get up there this summer to snoop around before labor day so I can check out the crowds. As far as the boat goes I'd like to get something that I can overnight on even if it's at the dock after a 6 hour drive. I'll probably be working 4 days on and 3 off so the 6 hour drive from Pittsburgh should be managed with no problem but I'd like to be able to do something when I get there even if the wind is blowing. On the south shore of LI we had a good bay system and I'd like to find something similar, just a little to the south.

I have a 28 ft CC down here but am thinking of something like a 35 Bert, 36 Chris or similar if I have enough water for inboards. I don't know what I'll do if I pick on a very shallow area, Probably some sort of Grady or proline but I'll pick the area and marina first and get the boat to fit.

Thanks for the advice.
