| I believe they have a form of slot limits in tidal areas (Chesapeake, etc), which IMHO are better than a straight limit of, say 28" or greater here in RI. What it does is allow you to take smaller fish up to a certain size, and leave the bigger ones. The bigger ones are the breeders. Smaller ones have less PCB's and taste better anyway  To me, it is actually smarter management. Their limits seem confusing, but probably not to the MD natives. http://www.dnr.state.md.us/fisheries...ecregchrt.html In the Atlantic waters, their size limit is 28" or better, similar to up here. http://www.dnr.state.md.us/fisheries...gulations.html Anybody from the area care to weigh in on this?

| My Dad, who passed away at age 96, on a day on which he caught a mess of nice togs, always said the DEP had it wrong. Instead of allowing 2 bass 28 or better, they should allow 2 at 18 - 26 inches and leave the breeders alone. There's wisdom gained from a college degree and wisdom gained from decades of fishing. Which do you think is more valuable? | ||

| I've got to agree with your Dad. Seems smarter to take two schoolies for dinner than breeders. High mortality in the younger fish too. I believe Virginia has different regs for different areas and times of years. i.e. as I recall size limit around 18" in the rivers at a certain time of year. also less PCBs in younger fish.
