| 08-11 : Watch Hill / Misquamicut Trip Headed out this morning with my brother in law (Rick) around 7:30 AM this morning. Started off chasing birds with blitzing blues, to only a harbor landed. Spent about 30 minutes doing that and headed out to the waters off the RI beaches. Water temps were down, around 68-69* with fast drift at first (2-2.5 MPH, Westward). Managed to hook up a niced 23-24" Fluke, only to moron it at the boat. Next up was an 16" Sea Bass, also lost from the lipper as I was measuring it. GRRRRR. The next few hours netted only one (1) keeper Fluke @ 21", and about 8-10 shorts, and a Bluefish. Drift slowed when the tide started outward, to around 1 MPH or so, still Westward. Fished anywhere from 45-90' of water, using varying Fluke rigs, some homemade. Started back to the barn @ 1:00 PM. Great day on the water and NOAA was WRONG again (surprise). Seas were 1' or less in FIS, and 2' or less in BIS, with some 3-4' rollers. Great day, happy to be out. |
