Bones After-blow TOG SLAM on INHERITANCE 11-4-07

What a difference a day makes......yesterday spent time at the marina saving people's boats....snapped dock lines, one sunken boat at the dock, etc.....trying to tie up stray boats, secure Inheritance even further with more fenders and extra lines.......

This morning? GLASS!!!!!! NO WIND!!!!!

Simply unbelievable!

Brian (Albatross) met my father, brother and I at Allen Harbor for a 6 AM start. Figured we'd leave an hour later to give the weather more time to lay down. Well, turned out it wasn't necessary! LOL

Bay was a mill pond, and we decided to head straight for the Sound. A little lumpy outside Newport but not bad at all! Very widely spaced rollers to 6', like a golf course.

Got on the hook quickly on our spot, and with one adjustment, started railing fish. Started out with smalls to get the bite going, then the nice ones started biting.

Started fishing around 7:30 or so. Done at Noon LOL.

We were throwing back keepers in favor of larger fish!

Ended up with 40 nice keepers (our limit) bled out in ice cold salt water in the 150 QT cooler. Plus a nice Seabass.

We threw back almost as many! They were hungry, the water was very clean, and it was simply BEAUTIFUL weather out there! I would have been so pissed to not have gone!

Weatherman f-ed up again LOL, this time in our favor, as we were expecting it to be sloppy. Just look at the "seas" in the pics! LOL

Yeh there were big swells, but like I said, you could have gone golfing on them. BTW there were NO boats all morning other than sailboats leaving Newport that were probably stuck in port, and multitudes of tankers and barges that were coming and going after having to wait the storm out.

We saw a few boats venture out later in the morning but not more than a few!

Anyway, was great to finally meet Brian, we had a great day, and had alot of cleaning to do, with 3 of us on the knives on the way in LOL.

Ended up with 7 1-gallon bags bulging full to the damn zippers with skinned fillets!

Who would have guessed that it layed down the way it did. So much for the small craft warnings they were calling for this morning. Great report, sounds like I missed a great trip

Brian was too quiet all day.....because I'd look over and his rod was bent with the fish swimming around like a bluefish LOL.....

My brother was high-hook for a while in the AM too, he had a hell of a hole working LOL.

Cliffy did more than his share as usual, despite his couple of naps and flapping gums LOL

These f-ers were lively as hell today! Lost a couple nice ones to the rocks......popped quite a few.....

I straightened out a couple friggin hooks on a couple! Hardened steel Gammys!!!!!!

Great report its good to see the weather man was wrong in your favor....

LOL we talked about that on several trips this year, funny you say that LOL........

Chris, next time......toggin is still getting better. I must say, we were all a bit apprehensive about going after seeing yesterday's havoc that was wreaked. Who woulda thunk?

I wanted to go anyway, I just needed to go kill some stuff and was determined to try

TOG

I will be the first to admit that I thought that Eric was a little crazy when he called me yesterday around 5:00 PM and said convincingly that we were still a go for the morning. I just didnt see how things were going to settle down in time for us to get out front to where we wanted to be.

But I said F-it and decided that if he was game so was I! Great call on his part, as I am sure judging by the lack of company out there today many decided to stay home and do yard work

It was great to meet the entire Team Inheritance today. Eric and his brother hammered fish in both corners of the boat while his Dad and I stood behind them and worked the sides. It was lock and load for basically the entire time. His dad (who I am a big fan of) joked at one point that the bite seemed to quiet down a bit during the slack tide....Literally 2 seconds later we all look over and his rod is slammed in half and up comes another bigun!

Thanks again for taking me out there Eric. A day I won't soon forget.

-Brian
