Hooked ALBATROSS Weekend Report

Hello All,
Left Falmouth Harbor aboard the RIPDOG at 5am on Saturday morning with Capt. Scott Clay and good friend Sean Cragan. We heading down the Sound in thick fog towards Gay Head. Upon arrival we had limited visibility so we decided to get on the troll to see if we could get a feel for where the fish were. No luck with the umbrellas in about an hour or so and then we began marking birds on the radar so we blasted over to see what was going on.

For the next few hours we chased the birds in the fog and picked up some quality Bass with topwater lures and various jigs. I landed my first fish pictured below on an Olive and White Ocean Lure but the Kastmasters seemed to really work well.

When we had enough chasing the spotty birds in the big boat we decided to get back on the troll with the umbrellas. We picked up 5 more nice fish trolling around Devil's Bridge before it was time to call it a day.

Final tally was about 20 quality fish. Nothing huge but some nice 15-20lbers on spinning outfits

Weather was foggy with a 10knot SW winds. Seas 1-2 feet
Water temp was 55 degrees and the tide was incoming all morning

Yesterday I was back in Rhody on my boat. The day started off with a little cruise with the wife around Greenwich Bay in the early morning. Its always nice to keep her happy with some quality time on the water before she had to go to work.

Back at the dock my parents and 10 year old Nephew Justin met me at 11:00 and I exchanged wifey for the new crew. I was determined to put my nephew on some of these big bass that are roaming around the Bay so we set out in search of some bait....

No love in Apponaug Cove, or around Goddard Park so i was forced to head South to make bait. Once i got to the area it was no problem grabbing a quick dozen pogies. We then headed back up to the Barrington area where one of my dockmates gave me some good intel from earlier that morning

Upon arrival I started making drifts with a small fleet of boats in about 15-20 feet of water just on the edge of the channel. We were able to land 6 nice fish from 32-38" in about 2 hours with a couple other missed hits. I also dropped a real nice fish that had an immense first and second run. I got the fish under control and decided to hand the rod to my nephew. As soon as i gave it to him I could tell he was a little over matched so I grabbed the rod back from him and then it popped off. Definately a real nice fish.

Chunks and livies both produced. It was great to get my parents and nephew on some nice fish. Justin was beside himself with all the action.

Conditions were beautiful on the Bay. SW winds at 10knots with waves around 1 foot. Outgoing tide in the afternoon with water temp at 67 degrees

I hope to have a day like that with my son sometime. He really wants to catch a striper but is not patient at all. I finally found fish on Saturday afternoon on the finder and he decided he wanted to swim. Got done, he said, "Let's go catch a fish". Got back on the mark again and before we got anything, he said, "let's go eat". I will have to take him with me in the morning sometime. He had fun and we got a steak sandwich on the way home.

Sounds like a great day you had.

Great report Brian! Glad Sunday worked out for you too! Sounded like the whole weekend was mixed bass results both days.
