Could it be possible that you are both right. By refining less oil, the greedy oil corporations are creating a supply problem. Since Bush marches to the tune of the oil companies, he is not going to do anything about it. I was listening to the Mike Savage talk show and he seemed to have come up with a good idea. Since we have spent a fortune in Iraq ( American lives, dollars, and materials) in providing them with their freedom, why not have them pay us back in oil for our losses. I cannot believe for one minute they would not respond favorably since if we pulled out, those currently in control would have their throats slit the following day. It will not happen, because our oil companies simply do not want Americans to have a glut in oil because prices would then have to drop sharply thus reducing their windfall profits.

Demon-- For every Enron employee/ stock holder that lost money, there are plenty of former enron employees out there that are now very well off (and i am not taking about skilling/ lay, C** position guys)-- What happened with Enron WAS a shame esp. for those employees that were forced to stay in the company via retirement programs, etc. but at the end of the day, you have many shareholders/ employees that stayed in the stock out of sheer GREED--.

At current projected growth rates in consumption with growth in China, India and Russia, we will need something like 200 mmb/d of production in 20 years (currently about 90mm/ day)-- The major producing countries of Iraq, Iran, Saudi and Kuwait are operating at or near max production with little growth in production forecasted--remember oil IS a depleating/ depleated resource. -- By the way, The US production is a spec of total global production (~10%), so blaming US corporates, while fashionable, is not productive--The US is a price taker not price setter with respect to global oil prices (hence they dont have pricing power at all)-- The arabs set the price and the US corporates drive retail pricing of downstream products off the market price of their inputs-- It is rather simple, the arabs own the oil and WILL eventually over the long term own significant wealth in the US unless we open Alaska AND cut demand-- At the end of the day, global demand is catching up to us and $5/ diesel at the pump may seem like a bargain in 10 years (and it is not Exxon's fault)--

Really , last time I checked it was American companies setting the price at the pump. If there was a supply problem there would be shortages. Get your head out of the sand and G.W.'s stink hole and read a book or two.

There WILL be shortages in the future-- The market is anticipating this shortage and driving the prices up-- I reccommend you read up on the Peak Oil theory--At least when you pay $10 at the pump in a few years you will understand what is driving your cost---

Boy your head is sooo far up Bushs stink hole. Get real these are the same people who try to tell you we have the best health care in the world. Yet the seniors are flocking over the Canadian border to get their pills and have operations at half the cost of this country.
This country is on the wrong path and their is not a single politcian out their that will make a difference.

Bob,
I saw what you did to the togs and I am drooling! I finally got my skiff nearly ready to go. I do not think I am going to make it before the tog season ends, but I am trying like hell to get her in the water. Even if I miss the togs this Spring, there will still be clams waiting for me and I am hoping maybe some winter flounder. Enough is enough already, this winter while not that bad as far as winters go, still it has been just too long. Come hell or high water, I am going to do my best to be out there this weekend. And if gas rises to $10 per gallon, I still have my rowboat that is ready to be launched just as soon as I get the skiff off the trailer.
