| Northeast Let's talk 'bout fishing for local in-shore species |
What have you got to say about the topic of: "Bass & Gaffing". Here's how is started: "OK, Fished the North Rip of BI last Tues night for Bass. Fish were everywhere. "

OK, Fished the North Rip of BI last Tues night for Bass. Fish were everywhere. The short story is after my buddy battled a big bass (est. 40#) for quite sometime and brought it to the boat twice the thing rolled while trying to fit it in my large net at spit the hook. I'm still bent about it!!! Long silent ride back to Pt. Jude at 2:00 AM thinking about how I F'd it up!! My question is: Can you gaff bass? Is it a legal or ethical thing? Never been on a boat where I can say I've seen a bass gaffed.

| Holy crap..... No offense (because I don't intend my following comment on you LOL, but on the state of CT), but I think from now on every time I think RI has ridiculous regs, I may think of CT LOL. Illegal to gaff bass......if that's true, that's gotta be a bill passed by some liberal politician. How about letting the FISHERMAN make the determination that he's gonna keep it let him land it how he wants? IMHO that's a decision that should be left to the angler. I only gaff fish I know damn well will end up in the box. If I plan on releasing, or I have any question of legality, I net or lip it. That's how it SHOULD be......geez, talk about STOOOOPID laws (if it's true) LOL. Anyway, sorry for my rant..........

in ma, i always was told,or thought if it was close you had to net it or lip it. there is a big difference between a 28in fish and a 40 in fish, you may gaff it throw a hand grenade or harpoon it.
