I dont think you can spear fish them. I know you cant snag them. All though I did hear as 79 lbs was speared in the sound. Not sure how true it was. Im all so not sure if it was ny or ct. I didnt think you could in ct but was not sure. I guess in my eyes its easyer to net than gaff thats in my eyes. Well good luck out at bi. When you get him post a pic.

You can't spearfish Stripers in CT. You can all other species in the salt though: Blackfish, Porgy, Fluke, Bergalls, Sea Bass, whatever....

Stupid CT law, but it is the law. I pay careful attention since I like spearfishing, and am typically in the CT/RI/NY border waters between Fisher's Island, NY and Napatree, RI

Just thought I would share the following that I found in the Ct. State Anglers Guide: Striped Bass "No spearing/gaffing, head and tail have to remain intact, and the fish must not be rendered unidentifiable." Not even sure what the "unidentifiable" bit is about....

In addition, for those fishing north, south or east of Ct and returning: "To be legal when crossing state boundry lines, anglers must abide by the most restrictive of the states' regulations for each species." I guess the "I caught it in New York" defense won't work....

The death penalty is still legal in many states....but don't you dare gaff a bass in Ct.
