| What time were you thinking? I was going to try waxing the rest of the boat but I'd much rather be out fishing. Give me a call.

| Stripey, I think this business of squidding has advanced way over my head. Underwater lights, fancy Republic of China jigs (that work), now you got me wondering what else is in the works that I do not know about. Since I am lousy at giving directions and do not know where you will be starting from, go to Google Earth and enter 1 High Street, Stonington, CT. Google Earth will allow you to zoom right in on the location at 41degrees 20'04.70"N, 71 degrees 54'34.51"W. Google will even give you a picture of what it looks like. Most of the South side of the pier is always kept clear for the unloading of commercial boats and of course, there will be no commercial boats unloading at night. When the squid are in, it is the location that I have provided where they catch them. One could walk to the end of the pier where they have the Fisherman's Memorial and there is an area that you could fish from the very end as well but I do not know if that is a good place or not. I have not been down there just yet so I do not have a clue as to what is happening. Come to think about it, the way you guys take your squidding so seriously, I might not be the right person to comment on it even if they are there. In any event, I probably will waltz down there this evening just to see if any body else is doing something and report back. Question: Do not know if there is a DEP regulation regarding squid? They seem to regulate everything else worth catching, so I am wondering if there is a limit for the amount of squid one can take? One last point, since boats unload at this dock, there is all sorts of crap in and about where you will be squidding. They accidentally drop stuff over the side, tie short semi worthless docking lines to the pilings, and you should not forget that it is working pier. So before you drop an expensive underwater light off the pier that could snag on something, be sure to look first.

| Save yourselves the agony.... I looked everywhere today for squid....1 lonely soldier 2 miles out in 90 feet of water. Marked one ball about 45 feet down, small pod, had 4 bites, 2 popped off on the way up, landed one large squid. No love anywhere inside, no marks, need a few days of SW winds. Water still cold at 46.3-46.9 degrees The tog were chewing their fool heads off, however

It's on my property still with the grass growing and turning green under it......while the old man sits in a beach chair under the tiki hut sipping his 3rd iced-coffee of the day at Key Colony Motel.....as he alternates jumping in the water on the beach then jumping in the pool (also on the beach LOL) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

| Thanks Dom, I really did not want to head out to the commerical dock tonight for squid. It is only seven minutes from my house, so I would have gone because there seems to be so many in this form that are raring to do something after this winter's layup. I think I will go back to my old tried and proven method of catching squid. Head out to the Stonington Commercial Pier with a worn red 5 gallon plastic bucket. You do not want a brand new one since the red would be too intense. Tie a 20 foot line to it. Attach bait to the inside bottom of the bucket as you would not want it to break free and drift off. Only use this technique when the squid are at the pier and in great numbers. Do not let the bucket sink down into the depths. Wait about two minutes and you will be amazed at how many squid will be in the bucket. The best bait is a $20 bill, and make sure when you flip it out it lands on the deck of dragger offloading squid.

| Throw the boat in at Fort Adams and sit under the Goat bridge. It can rain all it wants and you stay dry laughin' at all the others that are wet & cold!

| We stopped at Fort Getty. The squid are there, not thick yet, but one guy had a couple dozen. Big ones. We didn't stay to fish tho. Stopped at Fort Weatherhill, nobody squidding there, just a few guys fishing for god knows what LOL. Nothing to show. Went to GI Bridge. The squid are there, and there are some BIG ones Also lots of schools of tiny ones.Trying to get them to eat was another story. My friend Mike managed 4 all nite, me 0. They would go RIGHT BY your jig to grab the little tiny baitfish. They were very very wary of jigs......I swear if we had some little sabiki rigs we'd have slammed 'em! LOTS of bait there, shrimp, minnows, shoestring eels, sandworms, etc. Had a small blue running around too which didn't help us. That kept the squid very skittish, and they would come up from deep REAL quick, snatch a very small baitfish and screw LOL. Saw more on the incoming tide than the outgoing. The guys at Fort Getty said there the outgoing was best for them. Good to get out and get a feel for the action anyway! Seemed most on the bridge didn't do well. Lanterns came and went, and the place was almost empty when we finally left at 1:30. BUT....they are THERE! It should only get better!
