| With all of the talk about squidding here I was wondering if i could tap into some of the knowledge with a question or two.1. Does moon phase make a difference. I have a chance to go tomorrow night May 13 or next Tuesday the 20th. The 20th is one day from the full moon.2. How much of a factor is weather, (temp in particular)3. Floro carbon Vs. Mono for the rigging? Thanks Ed |

| We were there on the causeway, with 2,000 Watts of lights ![]() I managed 4, that was it. Most guys didn't do shit. The squid were EVERYWHERE but wouldn't touch a jig to save their lives!!!!!! You could walk on them, they were so thick, even the asians caught nothing, even fishing right next to us. Unbelievable. BTW, Steve, I was the one yelling to you from the big white Dodge truck on the Jamestown Bridge on our way over LOL......saw you at the end of the old bridge pier. ![]()

| MailleMarine, To heck with 12 squid, let's talk about something more important; how did you make out so far this year checking your pots? I have one of my rides in but have not put out any pots just yet. Usually there is a spring run starting just about now, but after everybody did so poorly last year, I have gotten complacent in doing anything until the weather gets a bit more comfortable. It would not take much for me to head out with six or so pots. As far as squid goes, it just seems too brutal for me to go one on one with the Asians. I have yet to catch a single squid this year! I think I now understand why many head out for the squid in boats. When you are in a boat, you just cannot be mugged by fishing rod yielding pedestrians. The trawlers have yet to switch to their fine mesh nets, as they are still targeting flounder and some scup (that is what I have been told when I stopped by the wholesalers). It should not be long until they start to land squid although I have no idea what the wholesale price will be this year. Last year it reached $2 per pound, so I expect $3 per pound this year might be in the ball park considering sky high fuel costs.
