I called DEM and they confirmed that there are no fillet laws in RI. Pretty much opens the door to keeping shorts doesn't it?

Chuck, it's true...trust me....

No fillet laws in RI.

I personally don't have a problem with it.....we comply.....we have been boarded already this year with fish while we were on the water,......I used to get boarded at the boat ramp all the time.....never a violation.

Reason I like the fact that we can fillet on the water.......easy discard of carcasses......why do you think so many marinas prohibit filleting fish at the dock? Ever see bloated striper carcasses caught floating in the corners of the docks or between someone's boat and the dock?

I'm sorry but it's one of the most putrid smells ever.

Cleaning fish "on land" is a PITA.

Hey Jay. It's a shame there are Captains like that. I hope they get caught some day.

Yeh....and the tree-huggers complain about WATER QUALITY in areas like marinas, small bays, etc........

They create their own problems with their own damn laws.

I know when I was trailering, I would mostly clean the fish at home until I found out there was no fillet law...that put an end to cleaning fish at home LOL.....

But when I did, I used to run the racks down the road and dump 'em in the pond. Then the dogs and other wild animals would drag em out and leave 'em in the middle of the road LOL......everyone knew when I had been fishing.....

I recently threw 9 large striper racks into my pond. Three one night and they were gone the next day. Six more a couple days later. Figured I was golden....

NOT!!!!

Seven of the showed up near the beaver damn just half cleaned out. What was left stunk almost as bad as the ones I buried last year. Putrid.....

I tossed them over the dam and let them make there way down stream to the bigger pond.

I went looking for them and could find them. No smell, nothing....

I used to fish in MA mostly and filleting at sea was not allowed. Now that I know I can do it here.... I will.

Still think it's a license to keep small fish though....
How do you enforce the law with only a piece?

With spot checks on the water. We got boarded this year already on the water up in the bay. They have a brand new boat amongst their fleet.

The more restrictive the laws, the more it hurts those that do follow them to begin with.

It's kind of like speeding......can't catch them all, never will, but if you keep breaking the law, you'll get nabbed eventually, the odds are.

The gall, the audacity of scum bag poachers never cease to amaze me....
Someone here contacted me and asked for the boats name and I complied.

Although I did not mention the charter by name (yet) , word is out and my brother is quite upset with me for relaying his account. You see, he just got an earful from another individual and called me quite upset.

Go figure.... someone makes a decision to break the law because they are too cheap to buy bait and I'm the bad guy.

I'm sorry....

Sorry DEM didn't get a chance to nail them beforehand.

Note to offending captain: Ya don't want it all over the Internet, obey the law ya friggin poacher!
