Coastal Charters Fluke Fest 7-07-07

I had another fluke bonanza trip today, with the same guys from last trip. MAN CAN THESE GUYS FISH!!

The 5 eager fisherman met me at the dock at 4:30, for a trip out to Nomans/MV sound. Made good time, and made our first drop off Nashewena in 80 feet of water. Made one loooong drift, and banged a few small fluke, but nothing special. The rest of the fleet finnally started to show up around 6:30, and quickly piled up just off Quicks in the 70 hole. We opted to stay off on our own, and I found a good pile of decent sized fish out near middle grounds. Wind against tide made for a weird drift, but it did not seem to matter to the crew, they hammerred the fish, until the tide slacked off around 10:15 am. We broke for lunch, and had a killer Korean BBQ spread, with fluke sashimi of course, and all the fixins. YUM!

We drifted slowly away from the fleet, and decided to keep moving away, heading back to near Quick's, this time off the 29 can. We had incredible action for the rest of the day, including two 7 pound specimens, each fish well over 20 inches that we kept. Plenty of shorts made for non stop action all day, and we had 42 fish in the box by 1 pm, but these guys did the C&R thing till 2 when we finally headed for the barn. The fish were not very aggressive, hitting very lightly, and this crew had no problem feeling the short hits and light pickups. WE also boxed 15 bluefish to 7 pounds, and 3 nice sea bass, one going 5 plus pounds! All in all a Kil-R day on the water!!

Water depths ranged from 48 to 90 feet, and fish seemed to prefer strip bait/sand eel combo.

Finally figured out what was wrong with my pic posting the last month or so.... My new computer was saving everything in massive file size high quality..... Now I can post pics again!

I wanted to fish that same area yesterday but the forecast for 10 to 15 was more than my fused spine could handle. Looks like it was almost flat out there. Damn!!!!!!

BTW, nice fish!!!!
