Mark, Have you seen some of the proposed limits on NY. All I'll say is "sucks to be them" makes us look like we can empty the sound.

Whats the purposed limit for ny ? 2 fish it will hardly be worth the trip unless you bring a boat load of kids.

Any word on what Rhode island is going to hand out?

Lightbulb ??Fluke Update??

I wanted to share with you the numbers discussed at the meeting we attended on Feb. 28th. I failed to ask for a copy of the proposals and just received a copy in today's mail.

There were, as I mentioned, two approaches to achieve harvest reduction.
One was regional and on state-specific.
With the regional approach a 37% reduction was needed and with the state-specific (Connecticut) it was a 14% harvest reduction. Choosing an option was a "no brainer" with these two choices.
It was discussed that a regional approach would eventually be the way to go but not this year(2007).

Here are the numbers put up for
Connecticut "state-specific" approach.:

===============================
Option......Length/Bag......Open Season
1.............17"/3..............04/30 - 07/27 (not yet approved by ASMFC...)
2.............17.5"/3...........04/30 - 08/17 (not yet approved by ASMFC...)
3.............18"/4..............05/01 - 09/19
4.............18"/4..............05/18 - 12/31

5.............18"/5..............04/30 - 09/05
6.............18"/5..............05/30 - 12/31
7.............18"/6..............04/30 - 08/28
8.............18"/6..............06/07 - 12/31
===============================

There were(est.)60 people there +/- and the overwhelming number
asked for either Option 3 or 4. Most wanted to sacrifice bag limit in
order to get a longer season. Options 1 and 2 were put up to show
the effect of lowering the size limit would have on the season length.
I'll try to answer any questions or get answers if I can't remember or
don't know.
Hopefully we'll be hearing soon what the final decision is and can post
as soon a someone finds out.

I've also got the numbers for the regional approach if anyone is interested in seeing those, let me know.

2.............17.5"/3...........04/30 - 08/17 (not yet approved by ASMFC...)
3.............18"/4..............05/01 - 09/19
4.............18"/4..............05/18 - 12/31
5.............18"/5..............04/30 - 09/05
6.............18"/5..............05/30 - 12/31

I find it interesting that they chose option #5. I don't remember a single person saying they were interested in this option and I thought the meeting was but together to solicit public opinion.

Agree completely John. Options 3 & 4 were the overwhelming favorites amongst those attending the meeting, yet they went a different route.
Kind of makes you go hmmmmmmm when they estimate the fish counts.
