Just curious where do you place teh trap?

Can you catch eels under the dock at a marina such as Dicks?

Where I am now at Cedar Island Marina it's a waste of time at our dock. When I was at Oak Leaf on the CT. River, I'd place it directly under the fish cleaning table. Was never a problem to get plenty just leaving it overnight.
Now I can catch some in a feeder stream that goes into the hammonassett river near our house. I liked to find some structure, pilings, bridge and place it there.
Also the small mesh holds in, what I call the night crawlers (small eels).
You just need to hunt around for some. We had many spots that were good on the CT. but seeing our boat was one slip over from that fish cleaning table and the eels stayed there as food was always available, we just trapped it mostly. If you find a spot like that upriver a bit it should do well if they are around. Bonus will be getting plenty of mummies(kellies) in the trap also.
Dick's should work well. I'd put it by their table or by the bridge but you got to watch out for the people who like to "borrow" eels.

But here are pics of the one I found .Its 1/2 inch rubber coated wire .12x12 square 24 inches long the little square inside is 2x2 inches 12 inches long and the end is funneled in that its attached to. The other end must of had a flap type door on it Sorry for posting late .I know a guy that eels commercially and he uses horseshoe crabs for bait .I'm not sure but any type of crab or fish may work .

The students at the Sound School in New Haven make and sell a pot/trap like the one in Chuck's photo. They also work well for green crabs. Give them a call and they may have some to sell. The kids make them so the supply is limited and they don't sell to stores.

I'm too far (south shore Jones Inlet) Thanks anyway.

I went to HD and couldnt find the plastic mesh. I asked around but you know how that works

What area is it in? I was in gardening and noticed the hardwire black mesh but at 3'x25' @ $20...I think it would make more sense to buy one.

Check this trap out....what you think about this?

$17.95 before s&h. I think a mesh need to be tied on the inside of the funnel so the eels don't find there way back out.
Tony, those trps will work. Tie a leg from your wife's panty hos on the end of the funnel and cut the toes off. Makes it more difficult for the eel to find its way back out. Best bait is horseshoe crabs that have the eggs still attached.

Well I did a quick fix on the trap . Found a piece of expanded metal in the junk pile .A few wire ties and a hammer .
I just wire tied the back on leaving a couple off one side just enough to pull it away so I have room to let the eel's out .The chute where they enter should be large enough to put some bait in .I'll try to deploy weds. and retrieve thurs . Maybe I'll have some pics of eels .Or a report it was stolen . Here's the address and phone number for the school.
