What have you got to say about the topic of: "Fluke Hooks". Here's how is started: "I find it easier to hook em with the octopus hook, have tried the kahle "

| I find it easier to hook em with the octopus hook, have tried the kahle hooks and found no advantage, with a larger 5/0 hook i've found less gut hooking especially on the smaller fluke. The rig above is 6+" long, bigger bait-bigger fluke. i've proven this over and over. one other thing...i have found a lot of the kahle hooks to be a bit thinner and have straightened them a bit on larger fish.

| I agree that most kahle hooks are a bit on the thin side when going after bigger fluke. We switched to 5/0 Stainless offset kahle and they are much heavier and have not had any fish swallow them but as mentioned, I think it's more about how big a bait. The wide gap on the kahle also allows a smorgabord of bait. We usually use a whole squid with a mummy or a large fluke strip with a mummy(kelly). forgot to ask what are "marios"????

| Bob: Mario's (aka Mario Squid Strips) are really a rubber teaser, nothing more. They are a split tail with good action. |

| Okay thanks. I figured it was something I'd recognize but hadn't heard that name before.

| Flukeyou, That is the biggest fluke I have seen in a long time and I am at the Stonington commercial dock all the time. If this is the size of fish you guys are targeting, blank out every post I ever made on fluking. I never even caught one half that size in my entire life. I even fish with fresh, and sometimes live, spearing. I use the mature adult over sized ones. If I thought a monster like that was lurking under my boat, I would use a whole whiting with a small shark hook. Nice fish! Just curious, is that something that was caught last season, or years ago? |

| KAHLE HOOKS and SUCH HI: I use 4/0 and 5/0 KAHLE HOOKS on all y DRIFTING RIGS that have 32-36 inch leaders. Yes, I've caught some smller fluke BUT, if rigged properly and baited properly, these hooks are almost flubproof. On my jigging rigs ...aka...DOORMATTER EXPRESS rigs, I use 4/0 and 5/0 and even6/0 sized MUSTAD hooks. The JIGGING HOOKS need to be tougher 'cause they do WACK 'N STACK Blues, Bass, Fluke, Grouper, A.J's, and much much more fish.
