Smile Flukin Clinton/Madison

Maggie and I got out a few times(sat, mon, tue) in the last few days for fluke.
Fished off Clinton harbor and out front of Hammo in Madison.
Current has been very tough lately(moon phase?)...drifts were 2.5 - 3.0 mph at peak, so we tried to fish 1st couple hours of outgoing.
depths from 40'- 65'. Caught about 4 to 6 each time out with keeper vs. short about 50/50. Fish we did keep were to 20.5 " (great supper).
Used fluke belly strips with large live mummies(kellies) and squid strips/mummies. Caught approx same amount of fish on both setups. Seemed as long as there were live baits, the fish would hit.
Nearer the slack tide we were plagued with sea robins but as the tide picked up they gave up.
Many schools of smaller bluefish to 7-8lbs were in the area. We had a pre-rigged spinning rod with a popper, so that kept things busy when we waited on the fluke.
Great day out and not too many boats around either.
Found one new spot and added it to our already cluttered marks on the gps.
We usually do a
"first fish"
"Biggest fish"
"most fish"
bet....as usual Maggie whipped me all but one day.
I told her "I can't fish if I've got to net all of your fish".

We're getting to that time of year here where it's eat some, freeze some for winter. Won't be long until the season closes.

Loved your Fluke info

Thanks for sharing your Clinton fluke adventure. I've never targeted Fluke and only caught a nice one by accident on a piece of eel while looking Bass.
This sounds exciting. Where can I get live Killies ( Mummies ) ? I'm from Guilford, not too far from your fishing grounds. Will come looking for you.

Thanks, HansDF

You can find mummies(kellies) in any tidal river, creek. Favorite bait if you don't have a lot of time is KFC chicken piece. You'll get dozens in 1/2 hour or less.

Our bets have been an ongoing thing for years LOL. Usually 1 is "clean the boat", 2 "Clean the fish" 3...is usually something miserable like "mow the lawn".
We have fun out there. A sailboat came by us and they were bundled up like they were blackfishing in November. Maggie said let's grab a 5 gallon bucket and pour some salt water on us to cool down as they go by. LOL
We used to have supersoakers onboard to cool down the angler with the fish on too.
