Late REBOOT Report : 08/04/2007

Was supposed to follow ARCTEKJim out to Block Island, but plans changed for me on the way out of Mystic Harbor.

Headed out around 7:30 AM (no hail, tidal waves, nor pods of killer whales to be seen). Had my family (wife & 2 kids) along with another child (10) and a 17 year old from our campsite. Let's just say that 2' seas can really freak out some kids. OMG, not even chop, just roller. That started us off well, then my daughter began the sea-sick routine (no puking, but green). She's a trooper though, fished her li'l butt off.

I made the call to say in Block Island Sound off Watch Hill. I spent the first 3 hours being a mate. Bait, fish, rig, net, cuss. Finally, I started fishing (not that it mattered, as the gaggle was catching).

Had nearly no drift in the beginning, doing 0.2 Kt circles over a Black Sea Bass spot I've marked up. Caught dozens and dozens of short Sea Bass (around 10-11") and ended up with 7-8 keepers, I think, going to 17" or so. Also had a 19.5" Fluke, and 5-6 CT keepers of 18.5", but I was in RI waters (19" minimum)...GRRR.

Anyhow, water was nearly 73* on the surface, the squid were so thick that my depth finder kept changing from 55' to 15' when they came through.

All Sea Bass we crammed with tiny crabs.

Great day anyway, and a good dinner last night.
