Took a friend from out of town out for a quick mid-day fishing outing. I was thinking stripers, but hit a patch of water, and thought, what the heck, let's bounce the bottom a little. W/ the strong wind opposing the tide, we got no where on the drift, so decided to drop the anchor for a bit. We were in @ 45' of water, mid-day, w/ a 4 oz Spro and squid in Buzzards Bay. My friend gets hit w/in about 10 min, and thinks at first he snagged something. I see this bad boy 10' under, and start thinking crap, no net, no gaff, I hope we can get it in the boat. With a quick heave-ho, it's in the boat pissed off. It taped out at 30", and we didn't have a scale, but I'd guess just north of 10lbs. It was fat - the top fillet was @ 2" thick. Biggest fluke I've ever seen caught. We fished a little longer in the same area, but only with only a skate, 3 dog fish, and a nice sea robin to show for it. Great day, and my friend was pumped - as were the kids when we got back to the beach: | ||

| Nice fish! I'd say your estimate is correct. Maggie's 10lber was 30" long.

| It certainly was good eating! I think we fed 16 people in two different meals (one being grilled on the beach the day it was caught). It was a big fluke for us, that's for sure. I don't catch alot of fluke, and didn't really know how this one stacked up to what is average. I was just surprised at its size. Congrats to Mag as well. | ||

| That is far from "average" at all. That was a doormat, and a real treat to catch. 30" Fluke are very uncommon, and truly "trophy" class for the species. Congrats. They are damn tasty too, just have to catch some keeper size fish (or become a dragger, so I can take 14"ers). Yeah in a few years if you're not a dragger, the 30 inchers will be shorts for the recs. | ||

| It didn't look average in the boat, that's for sure. Here's a camera pic of it on top of my 128qt cooler. ![]() Definitely a special fish for us - sort of glad to know we didn't eat a record breaker ![]() Thanks, Eric. I was really hoping for a good Fluke this year, so it was fun. Not bad for the first one on Moxie. Took me back to days as a kid when we would catch them on hand lines. | ||

| That's a beauty. Hang on to those pictures, it may be awhile before you catch one that big again. Congratulations on a fine door mat.

| That is a great fisk for sure, but it would not feed 16 people like me with my fondness for Fluke, there may have been a tad left over for lunch. Good job | ||
