| Northeast Let's talk 'bout fishing for local in-shore species |
What have you got to say about the topic of: "Online petition AGAINST the SWL". Here's how is started: "This move at the state level (NH and CT) is nothing more than another knee "

| This move at the state level (NH and CT) is nothing more than another knee jerk reaction, one in a long line of of former knee jerk reactions, from a bunch of political jerks....... The mandate simply calls for a list to be in place of all saltwater anglers by 2010...... There is no current federal plan implemented to achieve this, and as you all pointed out there are still tons of questions to be answered about simple logistics, never mind all the other factors coming into play(economics, age groups, out of state fisherman, etc......) Neither of these states has to act, they have taken it upon themselves to fire off a vote, to generate income....period. The rest will get in line like good little sheep, and pass hastily thought out "plans"(oxymoron) to get their piece of the political pork windfall...... I will leave you with this thought.....Once you are in federal waters, no license is needed whatsoever as a recreational fisherman, whether on a charter or your own boat.....Nor can they stop you from posessing fish caught in federal waters without a CT state license, even if you are pulled over in CT waters by CT DEP...... The definitions that every law must have in place under whatever section of state law it came from deal with the legal definitions...."the act of fishing" is what the license will cover, nothing more(i.e. landing definition, harvesting definition, etc...) Just another semantic to overcome for the average joe....... These laws, when taken at face value, are 100% against the 4th amendment, as are many of these "later" laws passed recently at restricting activity in the oceans(comm. and rec.)....but good luck being the one to fight it at the federal level...you got millions of $ and 20 years???? My take on the license thing is it would be very good to have the recreational sector buy a license....then we could actually put a real dollar figure on the rec sectors contributionoverall.....This would make the recreational sector the single biggest political player instantly.....HOw you ask? Answer: Now "you"[recreational anglers] not only are a "counted" user group, you show just how much money the license alone will bring in, never mind the rest of the economic factors like food and beverage., hotels, fuel, boats, slips. gear, etc., etc., etc.......The amount of money would be staggering, and money equals CLOUT in politics....... But the current proposals by the states is just plain LOU-D-CHRIS

| Hi, Could this be that the States want to grab some money before the Feds step in with their license? Someone wrote someplace that a license usually gets you something. With the sw license we will pay and get less due to all the regs. Time for another Boston Tea Party. This time we should start with all the elected officials in Congress to set an example. Dump them all in the river while the water is still cold. Then get new officials that will do what is right for the American people. Take away all their benefits as they are better than what the American people get. CN
