Race Point on Fire

Sorry for the delayed Report. Fished on my friends boat out of Plymouth on 7/3. We left the dock at 5am and cruised across CC Bay to Race Point. Tube n Wormed the morning on the incoming tide and picked up 2 hefty Bass to 38" and also had some spinning action with Blues who were crushing sand eels all over the surface. When the tide hit we cruised into P-town harbor for some Flukin but had no luck. Once the tide started ebbing we went back out to Race Point and were greeted with Birds and fish busting everywhere...

For the next 3 hours we were treated to some of the best Bass fishing I have ever witnessed. Used a light St. Croix rod with spinning gear, and tossed Yozuri swimmers, Salty needles, Gibbs and Atom poppers. All produced well with the top water poppers working best with Bass to 40". The Bass were just rolling in the small surf inhaling all of the bait that was around. The water could not have been any more clear with visibility down 15-20 feet through the water column...

After the action finally let up a bit we got back on the troll and grabbed a few more real nice Bass on the tubes and a large P-town Blue that slammed an orange tube right in the rip. All color tubes worked....Red, Purple, Orange and Black....

Final tally for the day was around 30 Bass to 40 inches and too many blues to count. We had a good streak for at least an hour of all BASS. Gorgeous ride back across the Bay and a day I will not soon forget!!

7/4 - Back on my boat in Narragansett Bay. Got a late start and made it to Sandy Point for the last of the incoming water. Picked up 2 solid Bass both around 36" on the Tube N Worm right next to the #25 can out there. Both Fish hit the Purple Tube yesterday. Weather really kicked up around noon so i decided to head in.

Will be back at Race Point on Saturday and then plan to fish Newport on Sunday....Good Luck Everyone!!!

The Race was on fire!!

Albatrose,

I fished the Race on Saturday (7/7/07) and had a blast. Keepers up to 39". Fish at first light were all over the place then died down by about 9 or so. Caught blues until about 11 then the bass turned back on with one more nice fish (37") before we headed back. In total, we got 25 plus bass and a whole lot of blues and we only lost one jig. Not a bad day!!!
