Report for 7/1

Got out on schedule @ 3:30 AM and was surprised by a stiff breeze from the N/NE. The moon was blazing in the sky.

Set the net and got bait, but the bait is starting to thin out a bit from the #'s last week.

Anyways, planned to head East to check some spots and fish my way back. The breeze was humming so I decided to stop and check out the spot that was good on Friday rather than run way East. Started my drifts and got 2 small fish on the 1st 2 drifts...1@ 30" and 1@ 32". The wind and tide were tough to drift this spot, and I was trying to keep my bait deep, but I was moving fast. The bluefish were thicker at this spot than they have been all year, and then it was bite off city. Ran into Philly Doug and we drifted the spot for a while, Doug got a good fish there today

At this point I gave in and started moving East to my next spot. Ran into Dr. Moon, who was back at the mad scientist drawing board. I won't divulge what he was doing,....very very crafty... but he was getting fish!!! Chatted for a minute and I went to 3 waying my swimmers. It was on..... their were some bluefish here, but I ended up with 5 good fish here, w/3 in the 30+ lb. size range. All 5 fish were over 40", with 3 over 47". Phill doug rolled in and got a couple of good fish as well. The bite was good and it was great to fish with Dr. Moon,FD and Philly Doug.

Good luck out there!

Once again Sea Cat fails to mention that he hooked me up with fresh bait all day and tipped me off to the hot spot. Oh yea, he also showed me how to drift the reef. Eric, congratulations on your 100th keeper of the year. Utterly amazing. I do have a proposed new rule. Moon can't have someone mount a bass if his camera is dead.
